I would like to put together a "spiritual" mp3 player of Prince's work so..

I would really like to put together a small mp3 player of Prince's more spiritual songs, particularly those from before 2000. Has anyone done this with success?

I have no clue how to mix songs so what I am searching for is how you mixed them up. Songs like "God", "The Cross", "Heaven" and so forth. Heeeeelllllllppppp!!!!!

Are you talking about a playlist?

Some suggestions....

  • I Wish U Heaven
  • Mountains
  • The Future // Sort of, if you don't mind the funny dialogue at the beginning
  • The Ladder

I would guess their asking for track order/sequence, like what songs you'd use and how you'd order the songs so that they sound good and flow well together.

this would be a good start:

npg ahdioshow #8 [sept 18, 2001]

  1. No - Prince (intro only)
  2. The Plan - NPG Orchestra
  3. Anna Stesia - Prince
  4. Elephants & Flowers - Prince
  5. I Wish U Heaven - Prince
  6. Love... Thy Will Be Done (Prince Mix) - Martika (intro only)
  7. Pearls B4 The Swine - Prince
  8. 7 (Acoustic Version) - Prince and the New Power Generation
  9. Space (Universal Love Remix) - Prince
  10. Still Would Stand All Time - Prince
  11. Into The Light -
  12. I Will -
  13. The Holy River -
  14. New Power Generation (Pt. II) - Prince (outro only)
  15. Positivity - Prince (outro only)

copied and pasted from princevault.com

the whole thing is one continuous track and some of the songs segue

nicely into one another. good mix of spiritual(ish) tracks.

easily found on the net, i would guess.

cool

I also don't understand what you exactly mean with "mix". But that collection is a good idea. Here's my offering. I've tried to sequence the songs as if the formed a vinyl record (sorry, I'm a bit "reactionary" wink).

Side A:

1. Thunder

2. Paisley Park

3. Anna Stesia

4. The Cross

Side B:

5. Lovesexy

6. Lion Of Judah

7. A Place In Heaven

8. God

9. The Holy River

I'm sorry if this is not what you meant in your post...

I should have said playlist. Years ago I had a roomate named Michael that was a dancer. He'd always give his friends cassettes that he made where he showed of his nack for knowing which songs work well together. I don't have that talent, I don't think so anyway.

Well said. That is exactly what I mean. I want a really nice flow of songs so that when my spirits are down I can just put on this mp3 player and go for a walk and lift my spirits up again.

I love the song "I wish u heaven" and was bummed that the Lovesexy cd I had would not let me play that song over and over again by itself.

I think I need to sit down and write down a list of songs that I really like and want on my cd and then come back to this thread with the list and have you all tweak it a bit.

So far I like everyone's suggestions. I use to have the song on my cell phone that Prince wrote for the victims of Katrina but can not remember the name of that song. Can someone tell me the name of that song ?

Thank you!!!! I so loved this song and played it over and over again until I lost it. There are just some songs of Prince's that lift my spirits in a matter of minutes ( and most of them were written before he became a Jehovah's Witness. I find that the songs written since 2002 are not nearly as spiritually lifting.)

In the last 10 years I think "Last December" is probably my favorite.

I agree with you, but with one exception: Lion Of Judah. This song is brilliant, in my opinion his best since the mid 90's, and is spiritually uplifting indeed. It reminds me of The Holy River but more concise, more focused. I think this song is a must when discussing Prince's spiritual music.

I've been thinking for years that the orgasm on Come was Mayte's, which made it less sensual for me. Sorry, not a Mayte fan. But when I heard Vibrator I realized it was actually Vanity's, and now I enjoy it more. lol

Funny that: this leads us back to the original topic, which was Prince's spiritual side.

The Line is spiritual?

Break it down for me...

Listen 2 it I just hear a song about some enticing their interest to cross the line into a sexual relationship.

I think I get the whole 2nd part with Precious Lord take my hand... but I don't like the 2nd part much

There are many songs that I don't even have and I think these are among them.

I think I have about 20 of Prince's CD's which is more than I have of anybody elses work, by far, but that is still not nearly a complete collection. I need to start making a list of what I have asap.

It's very spiritual, probably the most spiritual song he's ever done. It's not just about a human relationship, its about crossing the line into the spirit world / a heavenly realm "water's so much better on the other side"...hence the 'take my hand precious lord' part.

Besides that the music itself sounds very dreamy and spiritual.
