Abysmal. I could almost be embarrassed for Prince.

I like it, some of the lyrics are a bit off but there's a powerful positive message behind it imo. Prince is saying he doesn't care what others think, he believes in his beliefs. And mos def, Prince by himself is a "Band" - he don't need you to tell him that he's in the band! Like someone who can't sing or play an instrument, they might know that they 'rock' and therefore they are

LOL to read those remarks about the lyrics of this song.
Sometimes i think its an advantage that English isn't my first language, when it comes to appreciating certain Prince songs. Its easier to look beyond silly lyrics because of that. I mean: i didnt notice the 'lift your bra' lyric before.
Maybe thats the same reason why i ain't reacting so negative as others here on a song like Animal Kingdom for example.

It's harder for me to ignore the lyrics in a rap.The words are just too central to ignore.
But on The Rainbow Children, for example, I know all the lyrics and can even sing along, and not really give a shit what they mean because I like the music.
Same with most Prince music. I was just thinking of 1999 recently. "two thousand zero zero" doesn't even make sense! It should be "two zero zero zero" but that does not sound as good. For me it's about the sound much more than the meaning. My Legacy

I love how un-consensus like Princes music is. You could meet someone and say "I'm a Prince fan" and they go "OMG Eye'm a Prince fam 2!!" and you could still absolutely hate each others taste in music

it actually just shows his instincts for pop hooks. If he had thought about it too much he would have said "two zero zero zero" and that would not have been nearly as catchy My Legacy

Nice pop song, catchy with a positive energy. I was actually enjoying this song the other day and thinking, this is quite entertaining!

I know and a few times I thought the same thing..and just wiped it away and continued the finger zero signs and kept sangin' in the nonsense matrix "Climb in my fur."

that's because the "zero zero" isn't part of the "2000" he's singing about. it's the read-out on the countdown clock. [Edited 9/9/11 18:34pm]
