U2 started getting into their back catalog a decade ago, starting with the hits/B-sides, then releasing a couple of albums here and there with a second disc of bonus tracks. Joshua Tree & Unforgettable Fire were also released as boxes on top of the deluxe versions. Rattle and Hum is the only one from the 80s that didn't.

Bono had also said "God Part II" should've been saved for Achtung Baby, because it didn't really fit in with the Joshua Tree era.

The story of the making of Achtung Baby is going to be worth getting the deluxe version. They were going through a lot at the time, had their demos stolen, were on the verge of breaking up, and were in Berlin right when the walls came down, and cameras captured a lot of it. They still took the music seriously, but put on one of the most elaborate & funny stage shows of all time. At the time, the change made absolutely no sense, a lot of U2 fans bailed, but also gained a new fanbase at the same time.

Prince has stated in interviews that time is a mental construct. So as far as he is concerned, the Warner materials are all available to anyone who can just flex his mental muscles to go back and buy it all on vinyl in the 80s.

Prince could make a decent amount of money doing a good digital remaster/reissue campaign. Probably more than other artists who have already put out multiple remaster series. But Prince wouldn't make astronomical amounts of money, which is what he thinks he deserves. And he can't do it on his own, because (1) he doesn't own the rights to all the albums, if any, and (2) even if he did, he would have to give a cut to others to create, design, and market the reissues. So he has very publicly made a point of taking no loaf at all rather than half a loaf. Because, you see, he can make so much money from his concerts that he doesn't need to release any more music, new or old. That is, assuming people still show up for the concerts that he decides not to cancel. And we, his supposed fans, aren't worthy of any of his music anyway because we dare to criticize him.

Now let's wait for someone to jump in to defend Prince's right to keep those tapes locked up in the vault. 1, 2, 3...

No, what they'll proclaim is that remastering etc is incredibly expensive and probably not worth the money. I then point out that magazines like Mojo and Uncut and Q usually have a ton of ads from small independent record labels selling remastered/deluxe editions of obscure records from the 1960s -- which means that it must be profitable to a) seek out the master tapes of obscure records, b) invest time and money in remastering those, c) invest time and money into designing a CD-package, d) actually printing copies of them, and e) taking out costly ads in magazines. And these are specialist labels that have been going for years, who don't have million selling artists to ofset those costs.

Yet somehow these deluded fools keep insisting that it wouldn't be economically sound to release remastered/deluxe editions of classic Prince albums.

Oh, by the way, I've been saying for more than a decade and a half that Prince should have negociated with WB for a deal where WB would get remasters in exchange for Prince getting the rights to his records.

Fan created Remastered/Deluxe Editions have been fun at times, but an official release is overdue. So many options they have to create extravagant editions of his classic albums. It's fun to imagine what could potentially be released.

With his current religious beliefs, is it a good thing they haven't been released yet? I think we will all be disappointed if unreleased tracks aren't included. NO EDITS EITHER!

I would like it. But I prefer new stuff instead re-mastered albums or deluxe edition. But yeah of course, I would like it. But I will be very expensive, for sure lol.
