Appreciation of 77 Beverly Park

I absolutely LOVE this music- it is just sooooo beautiful! heart

Are there mandolins played here & Is it generally well received amongst fans?

Takes me away to a time when romance & love were present in music, unlike most of today's popular music which imo is utter garbage.

Reckon I should've been born in the 30s/40s or before!! sad

Apologies if this song has already been discussed......

It' a nice fluffly light tune, reminiscent of something I would expect on Parade.

It's nice but spoils the flow of the album. Starts with promise and I remember the anticipation as it started but then it goes into the sappy stuff. Not suitable for this album but has its place.

RIP sad

I think "77 Beverly Park," is a beautiful song. It has it's medieval romantic charm to it.

It's an uphill climb to the finish line.

Never understood all the praise for it, it seemed really out of place on the tracklist of Lotusflow3r..breaks up the flow..because Prince bumped it there from MPLSound. Love Like Jazz to Wall of Berlin would have segued much better which is what was originally intended.

Whether its place in the album's sequencing is right or not, I think it's a lovely tune. As some have already said, it has a Parade feel to it.

However, it's not very well received among fans. Check the results of the recent Lotus Flow3r album poll, conducted here in the org:

http://www.cs.cornell.edu...thm=runoff

As you can see, only From The Lotus... and ...Back To The Lotus rank lower... confused

But nevermind: it's a beautiful tune in a great album. wink

It is such a lovely gem. The bass helps to carry the song in2 an almost Italian piece of music that reminds me of songs my dad would play growing up.

I love it - mainly because it sounds sort of fado-ish, to me.

It makes me want to sit on a sunny terrace with a glass of vinho verde and a plate of olives, and have bacalhau for supper. cool

I guess this is another testament to Prince's diversity & the diversity of his fan base. I personally can't stand this song....

I used to think it spoiled the flow of the album, and maybe in a way it does. Then I remembered that Prince doesn't think like I do. He has his own way that makes sense to him, and there's usually something "off" even on his most brilliant songs.

I mean what the heck...this swirling repeated voom voom sound, and then some badass distorted bass plucking, and then...Greek wedding music! All in one track.

Having said all that, I do like the diversity and overall feel of it. Interesting oddity on an overall very strong Prince album.

I have always heard this song as a musical journey that mirrors a time in Prince's life. It starts out dark and brooding...heartbeat and breathing...as if in a tunnel...then sobbing...

And then coming into gentleness and peace and...quiet joy.

music One of my favs. I love Prince instrumentals.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I like it from the :28 second mark onward. Always hated the loop at the beginning, though. Even made an edit that doesn't have the loop. I like the female voice laughing, crying or whatever the heck its doing during the distorted bass (I think that's what it is) after the loop. And I totally get the sunny terrace vibe, too.

I don't see it as fluffy, either. "Olive" garden moments aside, it's lovely and stirs up emotion.

Hmm... I clicked on this thread thinking it was about property values in Los Angeles. Go figure...

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I didn't know it was an abode until this thread, but maybe the start of the beautiful music could be reflecting the tranquility he feels at his home, leaving the madness of the city behind? So many ways to interpret the music smile
