Prince's worst lyrics So I just saw a late night info-mercial with Cindy Crawford and it made me recall the ode that His Royal Badness penned to her from The Black Album. Outta boredom I looked up the lyrics to that song..... and GOT-DAMN they were bad! What other songs has Prince written with lyrics that in retrospect would make even the most diehard fan cringe?

Rich Friends (the whole song)
I also can't stand "I'd rather do you after school like some homework/Am I gettin' you hot?" (Shhh)
There's plenty more, I'm sure..

4 me it's...
This will be the day, that U will hear me say, I will never run away. I am here 4 U, love is made 4 2, tell me what U're gonna do.
Beautiful song but a 14 year old with a rhyming dictionary could have written better lyrics than that. lol.

I love that song and the lyrics but I agree that this particular line is a little dodgy. In Prince's defence though, the song was originally written 4 Tevin Campbell who was still at school at the time. Anyway I think it would have been much worse if Jacko wrote it or sang it. lol. The $ song off of Lotusflower drives me nuts

"we're all members of the animal kingdom...LEAVE YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THE SEA" Also slightly hypocritical from a guy who subscribes to creation as opposed to evolution

Come on guys, Baby Knows should be reply #1 - She makes you feel like your stuff ain't brown. Really Prince?!
Oh l'amour, l'amour!!
I like the lyrics to $, they're catty and funny, like old school Prince.

I agree. I forgot all about "Baby Knows", but it is terrible; and I also love "$". It's probably my favorite song from the past few years..

Johnny. Especially the annoying oh oh oh chorus. I'm so glad he stopped playing that live.

I'm listening to the Come album (which I am LOVING, btw) but at the end of the song Come, it is hilarious to me how he all of a sudden has a "Come disaster" he tells her not to breathe, cough or sneeze, he says something about getting come in her eye, come on her thigh, it's totally hilarious to me! Then in Space he says "everything I wanna do to your body baby, I will do to your hand" or something- So I guess he wants to fuck her hand? Still good songs- Lyrics are hilarious though

Ronnie Talk to Russia was pretty cheeky too
....but to Prince's credit I think his intention was for it to come across as simplistic and childlike [Edited 9/27/11 8:40am]

I actually love that album too! LOVE IT! I called a friend the other day, whos' a big Prince fan and told her, "You need to listen to this album again" (She had written it off as bad when it first came out) and she refuses to and I told her, "Youre crazy, it's a great album!" (even with his semen debacle)

My favorite Prince album!!!!!The music is quiet storm and danceable at the same time and the lyrics change from being hillarious to poetic. Genius! Pure genius!!!!!!!

Speaking of Come, ORGASM has gotta be the worst lyrics EVER! (I love this album though ) "come on...don't be shy....keep going...keep going.....I love you *end of the song* " with?? sounds like he's in the delivery room

Remember these were the days of the Cold War and the threat of a nuclear war seemed very real at that time. Hundreds of thousands of people were protesting against the placing of nuclear missiles in Holland around the same time. So Prince's wish for peace may have been real, he just wasn't mature enough as a writer to really write something good about it. It's worth noting that some of the best songs he wrote in the 90s were about social issues: Race, We March and the ones he gave to Mavis Staples for The Undertaker.

I'm sorry! The Mavis Staples album was called The Voice, The Undertaker was a Prince video. But my point remains that P learned to write better lyrics about war & peace in his later years. Writing skills are something you have to develop.

Well, many of that dogmatic pseudo-religious crap on The Rainbow Children, of course.
The type of songs where some 50+ Prince brags about himself on top of boring, bland R&B: Mr. Goodnight, Never be another one like me.
Most of his 'political' lyrics.
Some of his songs with 'big, important' messages have lines that remind me of the diary-musings of a 14 yo: - Diamonds and Pearls: as mentioned, the first two lines. - Gold: 'there's a mountain and it's mighty high, you can not see the top unless you fly'... duh.. really?
Most of his sex-fuelled lyrics since the nineties: i can live with many of these type of songs from the eighties, because he was younger back then and you could feel a kind of 'authencity' beneath the sometimes provocative lyrics, but in the nineties it almost became a charicature: - Come: the lyrics, and especially these annoying 'sex sounds' near the end, they were annoyingly on Do me Baby allready, even moreso out of the mouth of a 30+ person. - Hot with U: 'get you underneath the cream and ...wooeee...'. Toecurlingly.

Maybe the mistake is due to The Undertaker being a song in The Voice.

Lets not forget the little-bit-of-sick-in-my-own-mouth song School Yard...nit only creepy but so clinical it's not sexy... "Now take a glove, fill it with hot baby lotion and slip it on (Well) Pull it tight, that's what Carrie was like " ...about a 14 year old girl!!!!

Act of God, Colonized mind, The Word, Chelsea Rodgers...
His lyrics about social, political, religious and racial issues since (and including) the Rainbow Children have been so out of touch and silly to me, that i dont even try to bother to listen to them, really.
Whenever a friend, familymember or colleague of me would sprout that kind of nonsense, i would think: you are talking out of your ass, you need mental help.
But for some reason people here are defending him as someone with philosophical insights: IMO that has more to do with wishfull thinking and 'starstruck' behaviour.
