Now we know where the beat for 'Black Sweat' came from...

It does sound similar but it's not exactly the same.

It's not the actual beat lifted directly but to me it sounds an exact copy.

it doesnt sound nearly close enough to say he ripped it from him

Totally disagree, listen to the first 10 seconds..

Nah. Similar, but I don't think he ripped it. |

Now that u mention it...
But despite having had the Cymone track 4 the last 20 years or so, I'd never had noticed it myself, so IDK. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

HA! Not really close, and no he didn't have to rip anything off from anyone.
I think you're just comparing the fact that both beats have an isolated snare at the end of each 4 bars, with the open/closed hi-hat leading to the snare. There's also a quicker open/closed hi-hat that I hear... TONS of beats have done that throughout the years. I hear why you say that, but nah...

it's similar i suppose. black sweat has less hihat and more swing to the bass pattern. i bet there's thousands of tracks with a similar beat. there's a reason drummers don't get credited as composers. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

black sweat is one of my favorite pop sounding grooves by him in the two thousadns its simple and i reely dig the funny break down part and his facial expressions in the vid its good fun;];] i bought the video fromi tunes and watch it all the time on my ipod its pretty good i enjoy it and, DANCE 4 ME does sound a bit like it both pretty much pointless good fun songs just to get a fun groove goin;];];] is Sexy. Period.

It's not a question of having a life its a question of having ears! The first 10 or 15 secs is when you can hear it clearly but its still there through the rest of the song...

That song sounds shitty

Yeah, like all of these:
I Can't Go For That ~ Daryl Hall & John Oates Billie Jean ~ Michael Jackson Superstar ~ Lydia Murdock Like A Virgin ~ Madonna Carribean Queen ~ Billy Ocean Night Rider ~ Midnight Star Addicted To Love ~ Robert Palmer
Most house music beats sound the same to me. [Edited 9/3/11 13:17pm] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This song has drums on it and Black Sweat does too so must have been a ripoff.

Nah, the same use of open linn hi hat leading to the clap on the same particular parts of the 4/4, and with a similar sound on the mix makes it sound like neon pussycat. None of the ones you mention does that. But Prince did maybe a more clever use of it, making it sound a bit more sophisticated. But I'm 100% sure it atleast was inspired by that song. People are just ignorant to the fact that Prince is heavily inspired by both band members and other more known artists. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

Cymone always claimed that he had written Do Me, Maby and a part of Uptown.

I was going to say I've heard this beat so many times.

Much for Black Sweat. That thing is funky!

I wasn't talking about them sounding like the Andre's and Prince's songs, but that the songs I listed have similar beats and rhythms to each other. I was responding to the "thousands of songs having similar beats" comment, and that's why I added house music. there's no debate in here, this is plain stupid.

^ What plain stupid to deny Prince would ever 'borrow' anything, yes I agree.

the synth jingle that precedes the verse is more similar to 17 days than the beat is to black sweat. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

Most non-musicians are just ignorant to the fact that ALL artists are heavily inspired by others. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

See my post above!
Which, of course, makes it plain stupid that you are trying to make the point in the first place [Edited 9/29/11 10:54am] ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
