Pretty much an A/B type here. Heard a lot late 70s P from my brother's' friend. Thought it was an interestingly different sound at the time (hell, I was barely 10). Then the B-type era hit and SHAZAM!!! I've been around ever since...

Type A all the way! I'm not aware of any disrespect amongst others in the fam community... and if I did, or better yet, if I CARED, slap me cuz my luv of Prince's music has never been predicated on what other people think.

One thing that I've always wanted to find out from other Org'ers is, what's so wrong with the word fam? I can't see why people get so bent out of shape about it. I always thought that certain things on the Org were always taken way too seriously and that folks should Lighten up a bit! Afterall, it ain't like being called a @#&$_!(*@&*( !!!

The meaning behind fam seems to be positive while the origin of fan, being short for fanatic... well, there's a great deal of negativity behind fanaticism.

Could someone pull my coat on this?

I'm from 1970 so i was VERY young when he released For You. I didn't get into any music until the early 80's. My first album ever was 'Wired For Sound' by Cliff Richard.

The cast from 'Fame' did a concert where "Amatullo" performed 'Little Red Corvette'. I really loved that song but i didn't know the original - DORK.

Then a year later i heard 'When Doves Cry' and i was totally sold, and has been there ever since.

This would make me a Type B-C i guess.
I'll have another glass of you.
this time on the rocks.

I find it interesting to observe how people react in the Prince community. There are certainly degrees of inherent prejudice between fans; you can feel it on this thread.

The whole FAM thought is just a joke, to me. I think it's strange if people take the word too seriously.

I'll just peek out for a minute boxed to say I'm a solid A. And for the record, I don't use FAM. I bet many of us A's don't. . .bored

i'm one of the original Prince fams

people used to ask me why i
liked prince so much
they would make fun of his look
when he made purple rain
everyone who underestimated
prince had to eat thier words

Look, I'm not a Fam. I'm a fan. A Princeophile, if you will. I find your points to be very true. I jumped on the bandwagon during Purple Rain and stayed on. It was only years after the fact that I picked up the pre-1999 stuff. I found the music during my teens (the mid-80's) and it helped me through my highs and lows. It's personal to me and I will always have a bias. That being said, I'd welcome all the fans perspectives. Any fan that discovers Prince during any era should not be disdained or looked down on. We all have something in common on that end.

A Princeophile is just as welcoming to someone who got into Prince because of 1999: The New Master. lol
