Although I didn't think it was a good song, I thought it breathed more life into Sheryl Crowe's god aweful tune than it ever deserved.
's version is dreadful, but at least it sounds alive compare to the original, which I think is even worse.

To my ears it has dated pretty badly. It's just a mess of various things that were hot in the 1990s with some ideas borrowed from classic funk thrown in the mix.
In Prince's defense, a lot of people were doing that sort of out of touch and messed up material in the late-90s. Probably concluded that era appropriately.

I remember really looking forward to this one when I got the album. Loved Sheryl's song and thought Prince would do a ripping guitar version. I got quite a shock when it came on and couldn't believe the horror. But, something about it clicked with me when I gave up my preconceived notion of how it should be and by the end I was bobbing my head and now I love it. Hate the bit with Larry though, no I don't love you and I don't love god either, now frack off and stop spoiling the song . RIP

I hoped this album would put Prince back on the 90´s map.... The sound is good but there is stuff on this album that just doesn´t fit 2gether. "Everyday..." starts fine, with a funky touch but it should fade out at 3:03 Love4oneanother

Me too I forgot how awful it is. But that's because I took Rave to a second hand record shop and sold it years ago. Together with The Vault.

I don't think it's a bad song but it's not something out of the ordinary either. The problem with Prince making covers is that the covers tend to lack the eccentricity that's inherent in his own songs.

He turned it into a retro funk, crowded, church attitude song with a full, crazy, 70's type structure even if it has a bunch of synth voices.
Imagine if he had taken it even further into a full on gospel song.
I think he stayed very true to "Prince" with what he did with it. Make it sound completely different than the original in a way that sounds like a slap to your face until you get used to it.
I think that's what defines Prince music to me.
Good Prince music: Sounds a bit shocking like a cold slap when you first hear it like it's a bit off in some way, but then when you get used to it, it sounds great. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I like honestly liek this song on the album. WHY? I find it fun, energetic, positve and it has a vibe like you are at a Prince concert jamming along. I also like the original track from Cheryl Crow but I just find myself grooving along with Prince's funkier party type take.

I like Rave but Everyday is a low point in his discography for me.
Why on earth put this on the album, maybe a b side.
It's the only song on RAve I wish wasn't there.

Love it! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I never hardly listen to Rave Un2. I tend to usually listen to the In2 album. I'm not too fond of this remake either. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

It is boring, bleak and dull
I'm glad Prince never released a covers/influences album, that would have been terrible

I remember it being quite passable, but nothing to write home about (i dont own Rave, because i think its one of his most forgettable albums).
My problem with is, is what i have with a lot of Prince covers: when he keeps it to covering musical styles he plays himselfs a lot (funk, soul, bluesy rock especially), like James Brown and Sly Stone covers, a song like Betcha by golly wow and a song like Honky tonk woman -covers in which he stays close the sound of the original material - he offers decent covers.
But whenever he tries more sing-songwriter / americana-type of material (You cant make me love me, One of Us, A case of you and also Everyday is a winding road) it is like he doesnt 'get' that these orginal songs also 'work' because of their stripped down, semi-acoustic approach. He has the tendency to overproduce them and put all kind of silly embelishments in the arrangements, that simply dont work on these kind of songs. The most horrible example i find 'One of us'. Its a simple, effective rootsrock tune its in original arrangement. In Princes version it sounds all kitchy and insincere.

[Edited 9/2/11 11:12am] prince made epic version of one of us.are you crazy?

I much much much much much much much prefer this song to the song he recorded with Crow on Rave. The latter I thought was waaay too cheezy. Everyday is a pretty fucky homage to her song. Change it one more time..

Quote: prince made epic version of one of us.are you crazy?
Reaction: Well, i thorougly disagree with that. What is epic about it?
He reuses the beat from "Love, they will be done"...
He scream-sings the chorus, which has a very cheesy sounding arrangement...
He makes the untastefull decision to change the word 'slop' with slave... cant this guy be humble?
The whole things sounds strangely tacked together arrangementwise, and i think he turns a low-key, little rootsy song, that recalls images of wonder into something kitchy and inauthentic sounding.

And the song is like a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of emancipation
