meisme said: Pretty much anything before the year 2000. I love all his music but I tend to move ahead with him. Lately im all about 2010 and lotus/mpls. His newer music is less innovative but I have never really picked appart every little part of his songs. I doubt when he has an idea he sais to himself," I think that would make a cool song but im not going to use it because the chord progressions are not complex and its not a new sound." Sure the eighties stuff was more original but all this newer stuff that has that mpls sound would have sounded newer and fresher back in the day. I just know princes sound so tracks like dance 4 me, lavaux, feel good feel better, etc just have that prince stamp on them for me. I think the biggest thing is since like 2004 he seems more comfortable as just a musician and not so much some mythological genius. It seems like he just wanted to go back to what he was listening to as a kid and just jam. This could help to explain why so many covers and such of late. But you know you need to look back to move ahead.

lol because When I WAS a hardcore fan. I amassed a fair bit of knowledge. But my love for Prince fizzled over time.
Being disappointed time and again did it.
I sadly don't listen to ANY Prince. I Princed myself out.

And that's why, my friend, I mainly only listen to the classics and the boots from that period (with the occasional dabble into the VERY best of his post material)!

Graffiti Bridge, Rainbow Children, N.E.W.S.., Kamasutra , One Nite Alone, Chocolate Invasion(well, I do play When Eye Lay My Hands on U and Sex Me, Sex Me Not a lot though)

Graffiti Bridge and The Black Album - I find them both rather boring. Don't hate them though..

To be more specific:
Come: formulaic, uncreative nonsense. The first really bad album by Prince. People here who see it as some classic, need their mind checked.
All that plastic Kirky J co-produced crap: Emancipation, New Power Soul, Rave. You can include nonsense like Slaughterhouse and the Chocolate invasion.
The Rainbow Children: uglieness in every sense.
The lotusflower album: far overrated on here, a bit more stylish production but where are the compositions? where is the songwriting?
MPLsound and 20ten: Prince making a fool of himself and his legacy.
I never listened to News, Kamasutra or all these other jazz-fusion and quasi-classical shit Prince released during the late nineties and early 00's: i aint interested in an artist indulging himself to the max.

GB - Don't need that album, I like a few songs and then other songs which sounded better in the 80s
Emancipation - his first bad album. And too dated, both sonically and thematically
NPS and the npg stuff basically (Exodus is the exception)
Kamasutra/Truth
The Vault
TRC
NEWS
C-note/Xpectation
Chocolate Invasion / Slaughterhouse
Planet Earth
MPLSound/Elixer

And I think that's about it! The funny thing is that if you combine the best tracks off of these albums it will make a classic top five album. You can't experience the unknown will of God on your life until your doing the known will of God.

Just maybe some of the 2000s albums such as NEWS, Rave, SlaughterHouse, etc etc... Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!
