Some more general complaints:

- a bit too many songs from his first 4 albums, a bit too less from 1985 - 1988.

That's always been my biggest issue too, I can't believe they chose those "unknown" pre-1999 songs over singles like "Girls & Boys" or "Mountains".

From The Hits 1-2 these are my least favs:

Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad

Uptown

Adore

Pink Cashmere

Alphabet St.

I Wanna Be Your Lover

Do Me Baby

Pope

Really? Besides The Pope and Pink Cashmere, the others are all classic masterpieces!!!

Whenever you say that you can't, that's when you need to be trying.

I Feel For You

Escape

Horny Toad

Can't hate on "Pope" myself.

Really can't stand that "GLAAAM SLAAAM" shit on "Escape". It was okay on "Glam Slam", but the way that female voice sings it on "Escape" is beyond annoying. Then he even had to recycle it for that early version of "Gett Off" (i.e. "Glam Slam '90").

"GLAAAM SLAAAM".

Damn you, Prince.

This is easy. God (vocal) and Girl. Two songs that are embarrassing for me to listen to in front of other people. If I was trying to show people how amazing Prince can be, I wouldn't use either of these as examples.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I think Peach was the first time I thought Prince was losing it. The Love Symbol album had its flaws, but it was a great album at the end of the day. But when I listened to that Get It On-recycled shit, I got worried about our Princey. Then came Pope and the irregular Come, and the way down that led to Rave Un2 the Fantastic Turd was established.

eek eek eek I love both La La La and Escape. I don't hate anything on that set. The short version of WDC and the fact that Mountains is missing is annoying.

For me, there were no "weak" songs on the Hits/BSides set.

It was "lacking" some his singles like Batdance, Partyman, Scandalous, Mountains, Anotherloverholeinyohead, Take Me With U, I Wish U Heaven, Love Bizarre, Girls and Boys, Insatiable, My Name Is Prince, New Power Generation and The Morning Papers. I think adding these singles would help make a better representation of his work up to the HITS/BSides release.

It's a pretty solid collection for a main stream audience. However, I would have preferred he remove a couple tracks instead of butchering down classics like "Adore", "If I was Your Girlfriend", '1999", "Do Me Baby", "When Doves Cry" & "I Wanna be Your Lover". Not hearing these full songs is as frustrating as a live Prince Sampler set...

I know there's limited space on a disk, but the full 12" versions of the B-sides would've been an improvement too.

Did "The Morning Papers" chart? I know it didn't here in the States.

Keep in mind that this collection was the first time most of the B-sides had been released on compact disc, before there were other digital options out there. I think they should have included all the non-album B-sides and the unique single edits of A-sides, then rounded it out with whatever unreleased material Prince was willing to put out. Having LP versions of songs wasn't particularly useful for those who already had those albums on CD.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.
