Indoor sunglasses

Prince wears some kind of indoor sunglasses sometimes especially in tv interviews (ones where the top is darker than the bottom) I presume to protect from harsh studio lights.

I work where they have tonnes of fluoresent lights on a low ceailing and it does my head in, what are these glasses called? Anyone got a photo of him wearing them for an example?

LOL -u live right near me man!

He wears them for fashion I am sure, not for actual need.

You may be thinking about polarised lenses or those ones that adjust due to the conditions (reactorlites or something)

I don't know what kind of sunglasses Prince wears.

Yesterday I was at the DMV, and walking into those lights in one room reminded me that I have called the "Whitehouse," comment line twice in my life.

The first time was to say that if every office building/store/college in the world turned off at least one bulb in the flouresscent overheads...how much money we could save. I wanted President Bush to make a statement. Then I walked into another room, and only one of the three bulbs was lit. It was more than enough light.

I sympathize with you...many of us have light sensitivity.

It's an uphill climb to the finish line.

That's most definately the only reason I can think of any way...

I'm quite sure that he does not wear shades to protect himself from harsh studio lights. Do you see the interviewers wearing shades? The camara people? Do you see newsreaders wearing shades? These people are under harsh studio lighting every single day.

He wears shades during some tv appearances beacause he is trying to look good, or he is tired, or he is telling lies.

More to the point, to protect him from looking his age under the lights. Light diffusing make-up can only hide so much - and nothing plays up the bags under your eyes like overhead lighting.

I suspect he makes his "shades/no shades" decision based on how the set is lit. If they light him from below or looking straight ahead (in addition to overhead), he doffs the shades. If the lighting is overhead only, the shades go on.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

He doesn't wear them for every interview. They might be prescription sunglasses, because in other interviews he wears eyeglasses.

Genesia's prob. right about how he's lit, because some celebs are very particular about camera angles and won't go on someone's show if they don't change the seating around, the temperature of the room, use a specific type of camera lens, or the other picky details some people will do. I think some of you can name one or two singers that are a huge pain in the ass about it. But in an HD world, all the small details come out and put in magazines/online immediately. If you watch old movies, they wore some really bad costume makeup.

Interviewers and news anchors already know how they look on camera because it's a daily thing for them. Cameramen need to see what they're doing, and it's only if they're outside in the light of day that they might need to wear them.

And definitely if someone's tired, they're putting the sunglasses on.

Lou Reed said Velvet Underground used to wear the shades on stage because they wanted people to focus on the music. Plus they had all those psychedelic projections shooting right into their faces... Dylan back in '66 constantly had them on, because he never slept...

The shades you're referring two have a gradient lens (dark at the top, light at the bottom). Chloe made a pair that were made popular by Jay-Z. A pic of P in a pair can be seen here:

Yes he wears them for fashion and to look cool...common rock star/celeb thing in case you haven't noticed.

It also keeps him a little "safe" from people when he gets shy or nervous. I have this one video of him doing a record signing in Atlanta in '93 and he starts without his sunglasses and talking to people and this little kid kind of cold to him and he asks his bodyguard for his sunglasses after that.
