Prince: Orphan Songs I was thinking of how many songs Prince has put out there in some form or fashion without really giving them a home. Some of these are songs that showed up on official releases but not on CD or vinyl (Possessed), some of them were released to radio (Turn Me Loose), some were just performed live (Welcome 2 America), but they're all more or less accessible to anyone who goes hunting for them. While these songs may at one time have been intended for an album or project, they never made it there, so they're left as orphans. Some are definitely better than others, but all combined, I find they make a rather interesting collection--Hot Summer on its own never did anything for me, but as part of a larger set--especially when that set includes brilliant material like Possessed--it gets more listenable.
So I've created this set called Orphan Songs. I'm sure I've overlooked some, so please let me know if there are others. But they have to have been "released" to the general public somehow, in some fashion. Not random songs from boots, and not covers of other artists.
Possessed Father’s Song An Honest Man U Want Me Cause and Effect In a Large Room with No Light ’09 Turn Me Loose Gingerbread Man Welcome 2 America Prince and the Band Disco Jellyfish (maybe--not sure if this fits in the Orphan Song concept or not) Hot Summer Contest Song

Let's not forget the awful Purple And Gold...

No, I definitely DID forget the awful Purple and Gold on purpose. Actually, that's not exactly true: It has a home already. So it doesn't fit the requirements for being here.

I'm not sure if it fits these requirements, but Don't Talk To Strangers is a brilliant one. It was published in an official CD, the Girl 6 soundtrack, but it's at least an inappropiate home to live in. It cannot be considered a Prince "proper" album; although it depends on how you look at it, obviously.
Anyway, it's such a beautiful tune, actually one of the best ballads Prince has ever written.

Cybersingle? One Song? "Climb in my fur."

Yeah, I forget about those, but they would work as well. Thanks.

How about Glasscutter, United States of Division & SST
Also should we count the tracks that were eventually released on Slaughterhouse and Chocolate Invasion? I know many of them were rumored to be on the unreleased but unconfirmed "High" album.

Was Empty Room ever released? Beautiful Strange? I was never a member of the NPG music club so anything released there I don!t know...

You thought I meant actual orphans?

Empty Room was on C-NOTE, and Beautiful Strange is on Rave in2 the Joy Fantastic.
But maybe that alternate mix of BS could fit.

Hmmm. Glasscutter might work. I'm hazy on where that one came from. My memory of those NPGMC days is spotty at best.
But United States of Dvision is a b-side, so it has a home, and SST kind of does too as a single. To me, that gives it a home, the same way The Most Beautiful Girl in the World (and all its million remixes) has one.
I wouldn't count any Slaughterhouse or Chocolate Invasion songs. High, though...maybe, because it was released in an NPG Ahdio show only, right? Or was it released elsewhere too? If only on Ahdio, then it definitely fits.
