Joy in Repetition Joy in Repetition is one of Prince's most underrated songs. Excellent guitar solo as well!

Underrated by WHO?? In the Prince community (and especially here on the org, when this was PPML, on AMP, and in the Prodigy/AOL days), it has ALWAYS gotten major, major love.

Underrated? People make love to this song all over the Org. And, honestly, I don't get it. It's an OK, downtempo track. I guess if you need to find some redeeming value to the mishmash of Grafitti Bridge, it would be this track and Question of U... but I don't get the love.

Perfection. | |

One of my favourites. And a real chick magnet if sung and played well on a guitar!

*view other post* Also several critics have said that it's the best song on Graffitti Bridge

truly a beautiful tune...both the recorded version, and what he does w/ it live

It's one of his best; the build up to the revealing of what the "two words" are is a great lyrical device, and the music is, of course, otherworldly.

It's in my top 5. And Prince fans don't underrate it. It may be so just because it isn't known by casual fans or the general public, but Prince fans really appreciate it.
Just look at the results of the Graffiti Bridge album poll:

As can be seen, Joy In Repetition won so easily. And I bet it will be among the top 25 in the final poll that will be conducted in the near future.

It took me years to like this song, but I do now.

When I first played the Cd, that song was (and still is) the stand out song for me. To me, its the best 1 on the CD. I also like the "remix" version "beautiful strange" which is built upon JIR. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Agreed. Glad to see I'm not alone here. What can I do to gain more respect for this song? I've listened to it a few times, but I still haven't gotten much joy from the repetition.

Actually, in the spirit of education, I picked up a copy of the "One Night Alone... The Aftershow" CD at Amoeba Records today. I plan on listening to the live version of Joy in Repetition (on repeat) on my way to work tomorrow morning. Maybe that'll turn me on?

Best song on GB by far, and his best of the 90's (even tho original production dates back to '86).

it shouldn't be tarred with the Graffiti Bridge brush really, it's an astonishing song Hamburger, Hot Dog, Root Beer, Pussy

I like this song better live then on album.
The version on GB is a bit overproduced, and the guitar solo isn't mixed too the front enough.

Joy in Repetition = my favorite Prince song. To GOD be the Glory!

I'm gaining some appreciation for the track, certainly for the last two minutes of raging guitar work. But best of the 90's? It doesn't hold a candle to Eye Hate U. THAT song is an epic tour de force.

Hate U is good, but it is NOWHERE near the greatness of Joy In Repetition. You're talkin 80's greatness vs. 90's mediocre-ness. __________________________________________________
