how big is prince's fan base? compared to today's big selling artists such as eminem, lady gaga, kanye, rhianna?

It's not how Big it is. It's the motion of the Ocean. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Hardcore fan base would be around 100,000. Back in the day it was around 500,000.

It's absolutely shocking to me, but nobody here in Asia knows who Prince is.
It's as if he's gone from being an International star to a regional one.
I would imagine he enjoys a hardcore fanbase of about 200,000 by sales. But only about 50,000 to 100,000 actually adore or love him on a personal 'connection' level.
He's become Frank Sinatra. When I was growing up folks would rave about him, and older women (parents, etc.) would talk about his younger years and how he 'still had it'.
But we kids didn't know him from boo. Prince is that now. The difference of course is I think Sinatra's glory days were spent young , while Prince is so full of potential. I don't know which is sadder.

Well, if you check on Facebook...
Prince has 22 938 fb fans Eminem has 44 476 712 fb fans Lady gaga has 41 678 395 fb fans Rihanna has 41 897 429 fb fans MJ has 38 809 994 fb fans
so that gives you and idea Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

where did you get those numbers from?

Makes sense. People are afraid to get courtpapers after they hit 'follow' or 'I like button'

But Eminem, Gaga, Rhianna & MJ facebook pages are official and as we all know Prince thinks the internet is dead so he doesn't have an official page, i think there are about 10 different fan made pages though. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

There used to be Prince Facebook page (not official) with the wikipedia article on him and last time i checked it had more than 700 000 fans...but it seems to be gone now...
To be fair, you can`t compare a fan made page to the official ones by MJ or Lady gaga...
Of course Prince wouldn`t have that much fans even with an official page
It seems that about 1 000 000 people buy his records worldwide ( more or less). So probably this is his core fan base... As an live act he has a lot more fans... in the US alone about 1,5 million people attended the musicology tour... [Edited 8/1/11 6:52am]

come on, just because you buy a record or happen to attend a concert, does not necessarily mean you're a hardcore fan.

Point taken!
If did create an "Official FB Page" then he would definitely get millions of followers.

He's just a part of the 80's that's come and gone, just like new wave or big ass poofy hair

Well, some real big fans have to have a huge base, otherwise, when they're run in full power the motion could cause them to fall, ruining the rest of the furniture because they'd keep spinning after they fall.
I don't know, though, whether Prince has one of these big fans who need a big base or a more normal one. I hear that Minessotta is quite cold, so maybe he just uses a smaller type of fan when he needs some air.

Prince's latests 'official' fanpages have probably had less than 10,000 signups.

No, that gives you an idea of how many people like Prince who use facebook. Not everyone in the world is connected to a an online social networking site.

Indeed, I think the official numbers for lotusflower.com were a lot less than that.

not to mention prince dosen't embrace the internet and use "his page" to share updates or let people comment. he would probably have a lot more if that was the case. just checked it's only a wikipedia page so it shouldn't be considered his page [Edited 8/1/11 11:29am]

It was a shockingly ridiculous website.
I mean, the stupid thing had a riddle that you had to solve before signing up. Who does that when they're trying to further a brand?
And the interface was a combinaion of all the worst elements of the late 90s. Flash technology is great in places, but to make an entire website into a flash "experience" was just silly.
I could go on and on about how atrocious that site was, but suffice it to say, Prince's numbers on his official website couldn't have even breached 100,000--and I wouldn't be suprised if it hovered around the numbers your proporting.

He should try these. They are multipurpose: [img:$uid]http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/425389085/Stand_fan_base.jpg[/img:$uid]

Facebook and Twitter are non factors and I'm sure Prince has more fans than that. Come on.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It could be bigger. Much bigger. But I seriously think at this point in time, that Prince doesn't give a fuck about how many fans he has.
