America Video

I know this clip would have been discussed many times but I watched it on my ipod this morning on the elliptical at the gym. Even though I felt tired and my rpm was about 50 before it started, without even noticing or seeming to take much effort I was pacing at 63 rpm for the duration of the clip and pissing with sweat at the end, I felt like I could have gone on forever if the clip did.

Prince must have been so fit to maintain that energy for so long in his shows.

If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

America is one of the greatest underrated Prince songs. The older I get, the more I love it. It's brilliant and you're right, it incites a lot of energy in people. The 12" is one of my all time favorites- And I remember at the time of it's release thinking that Prince was off his rocker for releasing such a long version. Sometimes it takes time to let some of that genius seep in. Like Chris Rock says, you gotta let things swirl around in yo head and think about 'em for a while, THEN, and only then, form a solid opinion yes

I love that live Prince & the Revolution sound + Eric Leeds & Eddie M

They were off the Purple Rain tour and cocky as hell, they jammed that thing out

the few times they introduced America during the Purple Rain tour they would go 14+ min

the psycadelica of America both the 3:40 and the 21:46 versions are so dear to me... music

I love the ATWIAD album, it's a masterpiece.

Oh and those 12 inch extended versions, and extended B-sides too.

Those are pure magic, heart

And the orig poster is right, so much energy in the America video!

Just watched this again recently and the control of the band is what always amazes me. They really looked liked they were having a ball.

I like the song on the album (it overstays it's welcome on the 12 inch!) but live it is amazing. Eric wrote the sax riff that takes it to the next level. Pretty amazing the difference between the studio version and the live version.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/
