Yes!
When I listen to Prince, he's the greatest!
When I lsten to Sly, he's the greatest!
When I listen to Dylan, he's the greatest!
Seriously, there is so much great music out there, no one is "better" than anybody else, but Tyler I love how you're digging into music history! Check out Dylan too, he's amazing. And he'll play San Diego sooner or later.
Peace! Be wild!

I actually dig Dylan. I have about 107 of songs on my iPod. He's a beast. And I might go see him when he comes to San Diego. Do you have any other recomendations? I think I checked out every artist that made music I'm interested in.

Other recommendations?
Don't tempt me!
Andre "Mr Rhythm" Williams!
Fantastic rhythm & blues from back in the day...
And he's still alive an' kickin' too...
So many great soul artists are gone now... James Brown, Solomon Burke, Isaac Hayes... rip... That's one reason I'm so glad Prince is still out there playing. And paying his respect to his musical heroes.

I want something that sound like "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker" ya know? I want some great lounge/chill/soul music.

I don't want none of that late 70's disco/dance music, over that. ahaha I want something that you I can play while me and my girl are chilling.

Do you know any artists that make that kind of music?

Prince is my favourite artist and he probably will be for a long time.
I would agree with you about him being the greatest musician ever.. but my musical knowledge is so limited I'd feel stupid saying that he was the greatest, I still have so much to listen to, and so much to learn about razz

Yeah, I remember when I became a Prince fan. The journey of finding his music is fun as hell. I thought all his songs were about sex...I even though "Starfish and Coffee" was about sex ahaha.

You have a long ways to go. It took me 2 1/2 years to listen to all his surfaced music. I'll be happy to show you a couple of things, if you know what I'm saying wink

Hahaha I hated that song when I first heard it, it's grown on me though, it was like something you'd find on Disney lol

I've been a Prince fan for around two years but I've only really been into him for only a year or something, maybe less!

Haha I still have to get most albums from after '95 and I have a few boots but I'm gonna focus on them when I have all of his other stuff!

And I still need to see UTCM and Graffiti Bridge! razz

Have you ever had a moment were you looked at Prince old performances and say, "damn, he's the fucking greatest"?

I just watched:

1985 American Music Awards performance of "Purple Rain", greatest performance at an award show period. I dare you to say that theres better performances.

"Sweet Thing" performance with Chaka Khan in 99'. He fucking raped that guitar.

"Insataible" performance from 1992 Diamomds and Pearls Tour. Speechless....

"Baby I'm A Star" Grammy performance...need I say more

"When Dove's Cry" and "17 Days" wharehouse rehearsals. Damn near better than a performance.

I don't know...at this point, it want matter what artist name youu throw at me, Prince is better. He's a subperb performer, a beast in the studio, a cool ass person etc... Maybe I'm saying all of this because I haven't watched any Prince videos in a week because I've been to busy with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. But Prince is the greatest ever, and that's my opinion.

Ok, Tylerhippie, that is it! hmph! I can't believe I just spent the last two hours playing these videos several times. cool I have seen them before but it never amazes me that when I see them again I am so amazed. It is as if it is the very first time that I have seen them. omg Just watching all that fire on stage is too mesmerizing. shocked Is Prince the greatest musician ever? hmmm In my book he is and always have been! nod

Exactly! biggrin The best thing to do is ignore Prince music/videos for about two weeks, and come back to it. Your going to have a whole nother love for it.

I don't think I can ever do that!!! I would be devestated. sigh Now, I have cut back on his music at times. When I realized I had about 30 of his CD's in my truck at one time I took them back in the house, except for Parade, his hits, The Rainbow Children and Dirty Mind. It scared me to think that someone could break in and take all of his music (in which I would absolutely die). bawl But during my laid back Prince playing time, I enjoy other music (Stevie W., Tina Turner, Adele, Duane Stephenson, Tarrus Riley, Amy W., and so many more). No matter what, when I return to Prince in heavy rotation, I cause everybody's head to pop. excited

falloff Just try it ahaha It's good for the soul. It's like masturbating. If you keep doing it day after day, it doesn't feel as good as the first time. But when you do it after a week or two, it's the best feeling in the world biggrin

I think you formulated your topic wrong.

Is he the best performer on stage? maybe, but there are so many great performers also.

I think fans of Prince take some things for granted.

Have you ever listen to Stevie Wonder?

Stevie is multi instrumentalist just like Prince.he kick ass

on drums even if he's blind.

If we look at the level of sophistication of Stevie's work he is much better musician the Prince.

Stevie is also formaly educated .he finished conservatorium

for blind claSSical music pianist.

But he isn't better live performer then Prince.

I also think that Bruce Springsteen was as good as Prince as a performer.

very energetic, great singer, songwritter and a very good guitar player with distinctive sound.

So i find Prince to be a great musician but not the best.

Look, ya'll, this whole scenario about who is the greatest what is SO bogus! There is no greatest one of anything! There is only the cream of the crop for any musical genre in any era. There is no jockeying for a number one position unless you want to go by numbers of albums sold instead of talent. Musical talent cannot be measure and weighed...only appreciated and observed. wink

highfive One of the few rational posts in this entire thread! I recently realized that the spectrum of music is way too broad for there to be one best ever.

I know. But I also know that we don't need a child who has discovered Prince just 3 years ago to tell us about how great Prince is/was.

We already knew that. That's what I meant.

No, he isn't.

I rank him amongst the very best modern songwriters (lets say, since the 1920s), and he is a stellar musican. But he is in no way, shape or form the "greatest musician ever".
