2 albums in a career or whatever. Anyway, it's been so long ago now I can't remember the specifics but we had a blowout on here about it. I tried searching for it but it's buried. And for those of you who think Prince has gotten lazy or whatever, just remember thats subjective, for us, and him. A songwriter never knows his best music, never, and they never know the impact or effect it will have on others. I remember Prince thinking some of his music was divinely inspired well into the Graffiti Bridge album when the execs he'd say that too started to think he was delusional. And songwriters have often, often written classics and thrown them away, had them as b sides or otherwise didn't think much of them. Anyway, I always say, P doesn't make any more 1999's but I'd still rather listen to a new Prince album than just about anyone else.

Anyway, to me, it's a little different as listeners to criticize prince than it is for other artists. Recently I read a story of how Jose Feliciano said Marvin Gaye sold out singing a 68 national anthem and said he should have done it more soulful. It just looks ugly to me, that's my taste and not everyones but I don't like that. I remember Arsenio Hall just getting his tv show and talking shit about smokey robinson, Tim Reid, his guest called him on it "just getting started and taking shots at legends". Do I make sense?

yeah he did, and I think he did a few times before that too. But it's not Jose's place as a Mexican to say what a black american should do, not as a mexican or an artist, it's just ugly and envious.

Those liner notes is what atrated it as mentioned as well. Prince even repsonded with that remix of Undisputed lyrics change aimed at 2uest and them. Then he showed and proved with TRC and took D's ex, Angie Stone to duet with You Make My Sunshine etc...hell, even Shelby was one of the Soulquarians who sang on the Voodoo tour lol.....

Back in the late 80's when Jill Jones CD was released. Angie Stone mentioned this stuff in a short article in Vibe ages ago.

I almost forget that was during the time of social unrest in this country. I can see why Jose criticized him but Motown artists were always told to "do this to make money". They weren't allowed to take a stance on anything. I'm sure Marvin bristled at doing the anthem at the time especially during all that madness. That's why he asserted himself as "anti-establishment" after 1970.

I just looked this up on youtube. No wonder he had to lay off his employees. He broke the bank with the funds on this video.
