who u guys think was more funkier in 1987-88.

I think it was Terence trent d'arby cause he came out with alot of new great sounds. He also moved like a real super star. But it all ended too soon. But in 1987-88, he was better then Prince, muisc wise and getting more hits. But for career's, Prince wins it all the way

Introducing the hardline was my first too! I loved that man, and have everthing up to angels & vampires- still really like him and should get his most recent stuff. I adore neither fish nor flesh which is the most interesting of TTDs albums. Got into Prince a little while after TTD's hardline. While TTD is brilliant, no one can touch Prince. Plus 1987/88 is SOTT, Lovesexy and Black album era which (no direspect to TTD) are miles ahead of the hardline. So, for me Prince wins.

This. Prince was at his creative peak in '87-'88, no one beat him at that time, IMO. TTD did some interesting stuff in '87 though.

Its always going to be Prince for me, but TTD is one of my top 3 of all time. Always felt his real potential was wasted - mostly caused by himself. His album 'Neither fish nor flesh' apparently got slated when released but when I found it on ebay years ago was amazed at how good it was. My favorite tho has to be 'Symphony or Damn'. A real classic in my opinion and felt it should have been huge when in reality only scored modest success. A real pity.

Being a big fan of TTD and Sananda I am not going to get involved in this debate, they are both geniuses in their own right. But you can not compare them as they are very different individuals, but clearly both past their best musically.

I will say, that Introducing the Hardline, did give Prince a run for his money when it was released, but it was the year of of Sign too, so Prince kept his throne. Hardline was a very strong album (especially as a debut), but TTD was alredy 25 when it came out, Prince was 19 when For You came out, and music was a lot different in 1978 than it was in 1986, so why compare. Also Prince is known for his unique sound, whereas TTD had moved away from the sound on his debut and each release seemed to sound more eclectic than the last, although his mid 90s stuff did move towards his debut a bit more than the second album or his later stuff.

I think TTD was better than Prince in 1989-1990, when he released his best work, Neither Fish Nor Flesh, and Prince published Batman and Graffiti Bridge.

But in 1987-1988 Prince wins. As good as Introducing The Hardline is, it can't beat Sign O' The Times, Black Album and Lovesexy.

It can be argued if in 1993-1994 TTD was again more interesting than Prince, with his brilliant Symphony or Damn and Prince's Love Symbol-Come-Gold Experience era. This is a really creative period for Prince, but TTD was awesome again.

I don't think he was funkier. I'd say in general that the overall quality of TTD's oeuvre up to "Wildcard" is much more consistent than Prince's. Less albums, but more enjoyable in quality terms.

this topic's been done a bunch of times here but I'll say what I always say, Terence was in the class of the greats, he just had really bad timing. He'll always be one of my favorites and one of my biggest influences for my music. I'd say as a singer, he was better than Prince and good enough that rumours exist that Michael Jackson had his career stalled. He was truly amazing in many ways, to my knowledge, he didn't really play any intruments until his late twenties, damn near impossible to get your chops at that age, I've done it and I know I have to work harder than everyone else to do anything. Shows character on his part. I think his singing was more creative and individualistic than just about anyone in his era, he had his own style of phrasing and saying things. For example I would become "h-IIIIIII" he was amazing. Head to head, Prince beats him as a creative force but TTD was in the same league, and I think at corresponding periods he put out better albums than prince was. I also can't help thinking he put more care into the production of NFNF or SOD than Prince did his albums. I said before that he came five years too late, hip hop and grunge was wiping out the 80's and he was a casualty, one who never got to really have his heyday.

Wow to thinks that there would be ANY comparison is beyond me!

Oh lord!, i will just be honest here. Terence trent is oen of most amazing musicians of his era, but sadly lots of factors[including his loud mouth] caused him to have a carrer suicide.

But he play's as many if not more instruments then Prince, has incredibl range, and wasn't afraid to do what he wanted for his art, no matter how low the sales. Prince as a whole with his entire catalogue is better then Terence.

But Terence i think may actually be a better singer then prince, and is just very unique.. so in the end despite Prince having a large body of work which is better in the long run.. i'm going to tie this one
