-Prince is 2% Miles Davis.

-There is way more in him than that, I say 105%, but sometimes, I think there is something more to it. hmmm

-Prince needs to bring out Miles again because that is what we need to hear more of, but just as far as the COMPREHENSIVE.

-Miles talked about the tapes Prince used to send to him, like what was wrong with them, if, anything was wrong at all. square

Nope, What you are talking about is straight up disco music of the area. From the 4x4 drum beat on the closing high hat to the muted synths, to the gold pants, permed hair and scarves. Ain't no James Brown nowhere near that. Young Tyler was correct when limiting his scope to the years he defined. That is what we geot by way of released material, that is what we are discussing. No idea what you are trying to do. But grab a dictionay and look up the word funk as regards to a musical style. Then get back to me on that.

it's not the be all and end all..but they're both in the funk AND diso genere's in Wiki ...shrug.

Well then in that case, I will launch a formal complaint with the Wiki people.

there are punk bands influenced heavily by joni mitchel....do they sound like Joni? There are easy listening artist influenced by AC/DC...do they sound like AC/DC?

You just made this up. There may be punk bands that say they listen to Joni, but influenced? Who?

James and & Jimi's sounds r so indelible, one can't just simply excise them out of select years in a musicians career. Even an specific attemt to NOT someone like someone is a solid for of influence.

Yes you can. For You ain't Hendrix. Around the World in a Day is. The Dirty Mind tour was was not James Brown. The later tours were. He EVEN GOT MACEO!!!

It's like saying honey didn't have an influence on some "selecet few" dessert dishes because honey isnt in them. Honey was the first and most common sweetner in the human tool belt befere we were aware of sugarcane. Honey piqued our sweet tooth and had us all on the hunt.

What the hell are you talking about? Is this some kind of Jedi mind trick?

my main piont, i suppose, is that P's first 2 records would have been just as different as all the rest of his records(along with the whole of the musical soundscape at the time, had James and jimi never been on a stage.

This I agree with, but somehow I don't see your point in your examples. So we agree, but the reasons we agree are different? That is some cool shit.

I totally agree with that. But in a way, I still think Prince is the greatest artist ever. But Jimi is my #2 favorite artist.

-If I had to analyze,

-i would say,

-Prince has it down packed real good,

-THE only thing is he has to PUT IT TOGETHER, like a puzzle.

-But a puzzle in Prince World, is not like a puzzle you think you know. wink

biggrin
