Damn, really? eek

Wasn't it the girl who appeared in MJ's "The Way You Make Me Feel" video? She hung out with Prince and said that there was no sex involved.

It might be...I read portions of her book online and she talked a lot about Prince.

He's always been a religious nutter, so yeah.

You see his freedom mantras mainly pertained to himself, not anyone else.

He's not a religious nutter. Liberals always deem those with strong Christian beliefs as crazy. Liberals aren't as open minded as they claim to be, especially those on the West and East coast of the U.S. They are only open to those who agree with them.Prince is like most Americans, liberal on some issues and conservative on others.

Have you been paying attention, he's CLEARLY a religious nutter. We're not just talking about your common or garden Christian who occasionally nips into church for a couple of weeks when they need to get a kid in the local catholic school - the guy is a fruitcake.

Prince sure wouldnt be the First Black Celeb that leans more toward the Conservative side VS Liberal. Brian Mcknight is also a Conservative. I feel Prince is "Independent" on his Views about Life, Religion & Politics..

This is a very interesting read and takes me so many places. I also think Prince was liberal in some situations but very conservative in some. When you look at the lyrics of Uptown he says : "Where I come from, we don't let society tell us how it suppose to be...Our clothes, Our hair, we don't care; it's all about being there."

With that one might find that to be liberal; but it could also mean that he thought society would tell them not to acknowledge God, etc.

I don't know but as someone perfectly said...Prince is like most Americans, liberal on some issues and conservative on others. eek

I myself am not liberal on all issues, (Most issues I am...) I have my own set of convictions, but I certainty don't press them on every one without questions. My convictions by no means excludes everyone else who does not see it my way.

While obviously GOD is a major part of his music and life, I don't think that is a bad thing. It sometimes seems; believing in God is all of a sudden a bad thing. It can be bad when it's pushed and inconsiderate of other faiths. (Which is why the Jehovah Witness's aren't received well because they are essentially condemn anyone else who does not accept their "truth")

I myself rather wish it was like 'I Wish U Heaven'. "If I say 11, u can see it's 7..Still I wish U heaven". That is the way I think it should be in many cases. BUT when he became more "conservative" or rather a Jehovah witness it became more...

'1+1+1 Is 3'

In which he said " This is how it's going to be, if you want to be with me, AIN'T NO ROOM FOR DISAGREE BECAUSE 1+1+1 IS 3.

Then he seemed to be making a distinction; making it clear since 1+1+1 is 3, There ain't no room for questions. If you don't like it..LEAVE.. lol

Before then, it was more respectful and more 'liberal' in my opinion. (Not saying all liberals are respectful and believe the 'I Wish U Heaven' notion..lol) BUT now that he is a Jehovah's Witness his insight in politics have been very minimum. As he said in his own words "I have no dog in that race"

Haha..

So I mean this whole thread is very interesting I learned somethings I did not know. Such as him possibly being a republican and supporting Ronald Regan...I MEAN WOW! That comes as a surprise I need to dig in that deeper..lol. I did not see it like that. It's all interesting. But I mean it's controversy!

I know that a lot of what he did and does is to be questioned...He is still a walking contradiction! lol

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Prince has been in the closet about a great number of things.

The main thing is that nobody knows Prince.

I mean, when he's being interviewed, what you're seeing is a 'character' that

he portrays.

The one time I saw anything even remotely close to being 'real' was when he

slightly broke from character on MTV's TRL with Carson Daily.

Carson complimented Prince by saying "In a time of plastic music, yours truly

stands the test of time."

Prince must have misunderstood what Carson was trying to say, and live

on national television, he says, "What? What does that mean." with a real

catty expression.

Carson explained to him that much of current music was designed to be

quickly consumed and thrown away.

Prince then responds, with, "And you wouldn't have anything to do with that?"

with a very smug expression.

....at which point Carson gave him a smackdown essentially saying that he

was like a bartender. Whatever the callers ordered, he served. He may not

like the drink he's serving, but it's what they ordered.

Prince appeared really shifty and nervous during the smackdown. It was

VERY VERY unfomfortable to watch.

It was one of the only times I've ever seen Prince put in his place.

Bitch gets on TRL live and starts talking about how cool his upcoming show as goign to

and before some asshole starts in on the fact that they're legends, my point is

what was Prince expecting from going on TRL and talking about oldschool shit.

Is he not being himself or is he just trying to put his "best face" forward? Think of it like a job interview. You're doing your best to impress the interviewer so in some ways you may not show your true self. Let's say for example you normally curse during general conversation. You obviously can't do that in an interview....so in essence you're not being your true self....

Or maybe it's just that we all have more than one "true" self and we can use whichever one is needed for the occasion.

I remember that interview, I taped it. But I didn’t perceive it quite like that.

Carson called a lot of “today’s” music (as of ’99) disposable, to which Prince asked “What’s disposable music?” with a playfully quizzical smile on his face. I feel Prince was being a bit of a defender of all music if not a supporter (I don’t think he cared for the word ‘disposable’). Then when Carson explained what he meant: ‘Prince music’ is long-lasting and everything else on TRL is here today, gone tomorrow, Prince (imo) playfully puts MTV on blast by asking “You don’t promote this disposable music?” again, with a smile on his face. And that’s when Carson gave the bartender/Jack & Coke analogy. Prince thought about it went “Ooooh, okay, alright” or something to that effect. I think Prince thought this was a clever response, although not exactly the one he would’ve liked to explore. So he left it at that.

In a TRL retrospective (I think that’s what it was) Carson was talking about this interview and felt odd when Prince asked him about promoting disposable music, but was real proud of his Jack & Coke retort. But I feel Carson sort of missed the heart of Prince’s point: He wasn’t questioning Carson Daly himself, he couldn’t care less about Carson Daly; He was questioning MTV. And since Carson described what ‘disposable’ music was to Prince, then why would MTV promote ‘disposable’ music.

But no, in my opinion, I didn’t perceive any smugness from Prince, or any smackdown from Carson Daly. Prince was just in the ‘playful wise man’ role and Carson took it slightly odd, but good-natured.

Anybody else feeling this and if yes, does it affect your opinion of him?

I would guess Prince conducts himself, like the rest of us, in a manner consistent with the foundation constructed by his/our early environment. Minnesotta being in the north-midwest is certainly no California nor is it Mississippi. Conservative in the true sense does not seem like Prince.

I think Prince exhibits good family values, thoughtful citizenry, American Pride, entreprenurial skill and overall consideration for fellow man. He's also an entertainer. Its a fine line.

-That's interesting.

-I have always felt that Prince was MOST conservative when it came TO family values.

-Very much so. nod

-Like he would be the kind of guy that would demand that it be so.

_maybe I think this because of the two marriages that well, didn't work out so to speak.

sad

lol lol sorry, I have to laugh because "family values" is not really a term just for conservative republican types -- although they've made it that -- when I say "family values" I mean back in the day------------taking care of ones famly was first and foremost that's how we lived. People were concerned with society and their neighboors, not so much into materialistic things Moms and Dads biggest and best contribution were their children --- today, not so much.
