Playing an instrument and to sing live is the best way for an real music artist to perform. Of course. The "show" aspect with great lights, dancing and fireworks is a nice bonus, but real music by real musicians is what really matters. It's the flesh and the bones. And that's what Prince delivers masterful.

OK...I just went and watched the MJ superbowl performance. best part about it was getting the whole stadium to participate.

then I rewatched Prince's SB performance. no contest in my opinion. apples and oranges even.

I got chills a few times while rewatching Prince's performance. so great!

Aww, thanks for sharing these great photos. Such great memories. I remember getting scared too at the beginning with all the smoke and explosions onstage. It took like forever to spot Prince, I thought there'd been some kind of malfunction!! P took everyone to school that night, amazing.

I remember what I felt at both performances....

Michael gave you a SHOW.....it was heartfelt and entertaining as hell. You can tell it was thought out all the way through. The stance at the beginning...come on now,he knew exactly how to feed the excitement and I remember screaming my head off like the rest of the world! Who didn't? It was Mike all the way through and through, and I didn't expect anything less. It was a show and a GREAT one at that, I don't give a damn that he lipped the performance.....we all knew that the man could sing and sing well, so fall back with that argument. I'm glad I had a chance to experience the moment.

Prince on the other hand gave you a CONCERT!.. Do you know how many mofo's came to me after that performance and was like "who knew"...I'm like Really you IDIOTS!!!! They came up to me almost apologetic like Man oh man I never knew he performed like that! ....now being a Prince fan and mulling over should I say "that was nothing" would have been pointless because to diehards we know Prince can rock ten times harder than the Superbowl performance....but as a fan it was one of his greatest moments to present to the masses.....the whole package was off the motherfucking chain....

Come on we had the night sky, the symbol stage, fireworks, marching band, Prince's F-I-N-E ass working that catwalk, outfit, doo rag, voice and guitar, and then for it to rain on his Purple Parade! Come on did Christ himself order that up from Mother Nature!!?? It can't get any better!

Even though this thread turned into a comparison like they all do.....can't we just say we have enjoyed some truly GREAT moments from these two men and just leave this thread with a big Kool-Aid grin....I'm just saying.

I wish he could have handled his last show I went to in an equally professional manner but hey, everybody can have a bad day.

Yes it is. Best Super Bowl Perfomance ever.

For all those saying MJ had the best SB performance, I'm sorry, and I LOVE me some MJ. But ANY performance that's lip-synced simply cannot be considered the "greatest ever" of anything. It's not supposed to be a damn music video! Hell, I feel the same way when Prince has performed a few times on TV and lip-synced (including Soul Train, 1994 World Music Awards, 1995 American Music Awards, etc...). The performances sucked!! The only pass I'll EVER give him on this is the damn SOTT movie, but that's a huge one and just about it.

I wish they'd gotten Prince to perform 15-20 years prior for the SB, so that people could REALLY be impressed by what he could do. What he did in 2007 was Prince Lite, though I must say I still did enjoy the performance. It was very "emotional" (for the lack of a better word), mainly because of the rain while playing Purple Rain with the purple hue in the background and a stadium full of muthafuckas singing the "woo hoo hoo hoo" part. Pretty cool, even for this old/longtime no-nonsense Prince fan.

MJ fans could fuck up a wet dream.

But i just watched MJ's performance again. I kinda forgot about that one.

Well its just the same MJ dance routine and lipsyncing.

I actually dont know 1 good MJ performance after his Bad tour.
