Prince will NEVER listen to his fans.

Everyone talks about if/when/how Prince should release more material. Weather it's more studio stuff (new OR old) or it is releasing his live shows like Phish or Pearl Jam.

The bottom line is, Prince does not care about his fans. All he cares about is his payroll. EVERYONE has said he should release EVERYTHING, but to no avail.

If he did do this, it would not only put bootleggers like Sabotage and the others out of business for good; but it would actually be WORTH PAYING MONEY FOR HIS CLUB!

What Prince fan would not pay $10-$20 for a new Prince album? How about for each live show?

But he would rather play the hurt, slave musician.

This is the same guy who pulled the release of the Black Album days before release.

Tihs is the same guy who got bored with Sign "O" the Times and therefore gave up on what COULD have been his second best selling album.

This is the same guy who spent almost $1,000,000 on a Carmen Electra video!?!?!

This is the same guy who changed his name to a freakin' symbol, and because of it, became a public laughing stock.

This is the same guy who speaks in non-sensical lines to a simple yes or no question.

This is the same guy who wrote "slave" on his cheek for years to get the public to feel sorry for the little freakish symbol sportin millionaire.

This is the same guy who can't get someone to even operate the NPGMC, so "members" can get their orders.

This is the same guy who can't understand why he can't get a camel in Minnesota at 3:00am in the middle of January!

Do I need to go on?

This will not EVER happen. Prince will NEVER do the right thing EVER!

Go ahead people sound off! Am I that wrong, right on, or way off base?

Remember this is just MY opinion.

Ahhh, don't be so mad! Prince is a strange guy who makes strange decisions, but on the other hand, what about the music? Eventhough he might not listen to his fans like we want him to, I bet he has good reasons for that. And if not, well, then just listen to his music! headbang

We asked for a piano album: We got a piano album
We asked for a live album: We got a live album(s)
We asked for minimal overdubs: Very little overdubs indeed...

I get a kick out of Prince fans buying into calling themselves "fams". You don't treat family the way Prince treats his fans. How many of you would fall over if your Mom started charging you a $100 to join her club?

I don't get your argument. Prince shouldn't charge his fans to buy his music?
Club members or not, somehow he has to pay for the expensive costs of mass producing the CD's he sells, producing the music, pay his band members, keep Paisley going, etc etc.

Obviously, he is fairly wealthy, but he's be poor in 5 yrs if he suddenly started paying for everything out of his own pocket without charging anyone.

BTW, if any one of my family members is over 18 and still living in my mother's home she'd sure as hell be charging rent to be in her 'club'. wink

Point is Prince charges you to join the club and oftentimes charges you for the music on top of that fee. Oftentimes, the club members pay more than the regular record-buying public. Example - I direct-ordered "Crystal Ball" for $60 through 1-800-NEW-FUNK. I saw it in a store months before I received mine and for $10 less. Same thing happened to NPGMC members with the One Night Alone box set. I'm not opposed to artists getting paid, but he got rid of his major label representation and it quickly became a lot more expensive to be a Prince fan. His personal cut went up (bravo for him), but so did the prices. Unfortunately, the quality, frequency and service went down. The ones who get gouged are the dedicated, hardcore fans -- not the casual record buyer. That, in my opinion, is no way to treat "family." P.S. I don't live at home. I spend too much time at your mama's.

No, what I am saying is that if you are going to charge people $100 for joining a club. You better make sure they get what you promised. You know, Pre-releases on ONA Live (pre-release means BEFORE it is sold in stores), release the albums you promoted, and give your fans (there's not that many left in the world) what they want and what they are told.

HE HAS TO CHARGE FOR HIS CLUB. That's not what is in question here. IF HE DIDN'T, HE COULD NOT SURVIVE.

What I am saying if he gave us what we asked for, HE WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY $$$

Okay, first of all I REALLY DO APPREACIATE HIS MUSIC. I listen to more Prince than everything else combined.

What I am trying to convey is Prince HATES bootleggers, Phish, The Gratefull Dead, Dave Matthews, alot of bands support bootlegging. If Prince does not support them (it's his right) give his fans what THEY WANT and Sabotage would not exist. Simple as that.

Are you going to by a Prince Soundboard Live recording, or an average to poor sounding audience recording from Mr. Bootlegger?

Problem solved, and now Prince is making all the money, much more money than ever, and NOT Sabotage.

And your fans will be happy as a sponge on Jennifer Love Hewitt's wet bathing body.

Get over it now because you are NEVER going to be happy. Even if Prince were to release whatever you wanted you find a reason to complain. You'll complain that the funkiest song on the cd doesn't have a good guitar solo then you'll compain about the hardest rocking track not being funky enough. You'll caomplain about the artwork, or how long it took to arrive in the mail, or how there were no singles or videos released for the album, you'll complain about no tour or insufficient promotion. You'll complain that it wasn't commercial enough for a Grammy nomination but if he were nominated for a Grammy you'd accuse him of selling out. You should learn to appreciate what you have and be thankful that the greatest singer/song writer/musician in history is here NOW in our lifetime to experience and enjoy first hand. If you don't like the way he operates or the music he makes then DON'T LISTEN anymore.

Life is simple, the LittlePill way.

Co-sign, except change change Jennifer Love Hewitt to Gwen Stefani...

Seriously, the Grateful Dead built a non-commercial EMPIRE and a rabid loyal fanbase with this exact approach. They ENCOURAGED soundboard recordings at their shows, gave a different one every night and never cow-towed to MTV, radio stations or record companies. They had the most loyal and dedicated fanbase in the world, sold out everywhere they played, made millions and never came close to being as polished or as developed musically as Prince is.

ok...well, I agree that I would love him to release more live material..that is not what I had a problem with. I had a problem with you saying Prince doesn't care about his fans, he only cares about the money, to which I was trying to say that you really don't know him personally so you shouldn't say Prince doesn't care about his fans. He may not have released every single thing every single fan ever wanted...but that does not mean he doesn't care. it also doesn't mean he does. smile
I think the ONA Live set is a step in the right direction...right? what do you think?
It's one thing to want the man to release more live music..it's entirely another thing to put words in his mouth because you're not happy with the output.
