I haven't heard it yet,
but isn't it just the sample from a concert >> not really "live"... ?

^I haven't heard this version you're talking about, but he usually plays it on a sampler keyboard which samples a loop from the album track. Some versions include real bass.

^ Edit - 802 is right
Hot Thing: part of the sample set...
Prince is playing samples, beats from different songs - while he is singing over this sample.
I have just watched "Hot Thing" and I see Prince is actually playing the bass while the sample is playing..
cool. [Edited 8/16/11 0:22am] Prince 4Ever.

Think it works really well. That beat still sounds so fierce.

Nope to those who say it's always "only" part of the sampler set. When I've seen him live one week ago he did start the loop of the beat on the sampler, but then put it into John Blackwell's monitor and told the band to play along, so it had real drums, real bass, real keyboard and Prince on vocals, which, to me, excludes it from the sampler set and makes it a real live version.
The video from Sweden Andy Allo posted is the same - live version of Hot Thing (started off by the drum loop from the sampler set).
And I did love it! | |

what's the deal with prince and jw now. surely a 53 yr old perving over a 21 yr old girl is frowned upon by the watchtower. i'm loving this version bigtime!! that electro beat is timeless, good to see so many young folk in the audience digging it too. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

I'm just glad to hear that in 2011, a JW-indoctrinated Prince is back to performing songs like "Let's Work" and "Hot Thing".

there's still hope left that we'll get our prince back, very encouraging. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

He never stopped doing Let's Work. It may have been a while since he's performed it, but he has performed post-conversion. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Just saw a clip of him performing Hot Thing in Sweden...wow, he really funked it up big time, that bass solo was the shit!
Come back to Germany, Prince...as long as you don't do Cologne, everything will be just fine Baby

It seems as if he's got more comfortable doing it though...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, he's been performing Let's Work a lot recently during the Raspberry Beret/Cream/Cool/Let's Work/U Got The Look medley.

So the music is a sample, Ando Allo pretends to play the guitar, and Prince shouts "real music by real musicians!".

This version is a absolute masterpiece. It can easily be released as a single today.....This version is part live the keyboard riffs are different and the added drum beat & bass makes it more funkier.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

hot thing would sound ridiculous played totally by the band, it's the sampled electro drum n bass loop that gives it it's edge, it just oozes sex. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

Please. Don't get your hopes up. He'll still be the same ol' hypocritical SOB he's always been when it comes to shit like that.

It is great indeed! Always loved this track a lot with its' mean electrobeat. I am surprised that Prince plays it again, it is a highly sexual tune. But you don't hear me complaining though... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

please just let me grasp onto a straw. lol. i don't get prince's train of thought myself these days. why is he still censoring dmsr yet thinks its ok to perv over girls who are barely 21. he's just making the rules up to suit himself as usual. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....
