i think he COULD,but it would have to be somewhat publisized.. like someone up there said "The majority of people don't even know he has continued to make music past 1990" so yes i think he is more than capable of it.. i think he should do an album with newly composed things, a long with a few from the fault, one things for sure...id buy it

I think the question is whether he will go platium again. His hardcore fanbase usually gets him gold.

Except for the last two, almost every album he put out excluding some NPG releases has gone either gold or platinum or did we forget that?

I thought lotusflow3r went gold?

You are right, Prince fans will always get him to gold. However, Prince would have to follow a more traditional model of releasing his music to ever have a chance to go platinum again. He'd also have to put in some work to promote the project and he'd have make an album that was commercially accesible to mainstream listeners. Unfortunately, Prince doesn't seem to be interested in doing none of the above at the moment.

well lotusflower went gold in the usa....3121 hit number one and went gold....musicology went double platinium in the states...and platinium if you dont count the concert cds..... . in the uk...both musicology and 3121 both went gold..... . am i missing something here... . there is a common misconception that prince doesnt sell very well anymore....he still sells millions of albums worldwide....not to the level of his big 80s albums but still sells well if compared to other artists.... . it may be a surprise to some but musicology has actually sold more copies in the usa than his 1988 classic album lovesexy.. . where prince doesnt sell well anymore is singles...but single sales have been declining generally for years anyway...

If you mean in the sense of, will he ever release a cd that is a hit and lands at the top of the charts again, no. I think that time has past.
But I actually do think he still has more good music in him. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

his last 4 albums hit #3, #1, #3 and #2. His only streak of 4 consecutive top 3 albums in his career.
Those albums also generated 3 of his 7 grammy awards and a total of 12 of his 33 career grammy nominations. He also got another grammy nomination during that period for "The song of the Heart". [Edited 8/15/11 18:07pm]

Right! In Belgium Musicology,3121 and PE went top5/top3!! Sure,he has no hits but his albums are doing just fine...and this during the download era! Love4oneanother

Every artist has to deal with downloading, but new (hip) artists who have more young fans probably a little more. So that would make it relatively easy for Prince (and other older artist with a ditto public) to get high in the salescharts. (I take it we are talking illegal downloads, as legal ones are being counted for the charts)

No. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Singles don't mean shit nowadays, they're just free downloads, promo for the album. I haven't listene to the charts for years, couldn't tell you what was in the top 10.

If he releases an album properly in the US, it will go gold.

i don't think that Prince makes or records music which is pleasing to the consumer culture out there...he records for artistic merit. britney spears and others who are top of the charts are merely making money for the record companies...pawns, put it that way.
besides, the majors do not want to see Prince succeed. if he succeeds commercially, as he is, then he shows other artists that there is more to life than a hit, and one can still make a living off of music.
for example, even though media covered this last tour, in the USA and Europe, generally speaking, mainstream media was not that supportive. I acknowledge those sources who gave him raving reviews, but the point is, supporting Prince is like media shooting themselves in the foot.
he represents independence, uncompromised artistic integrity and contempt for those who determine what major record companies define as quality for the masses.

Prince? Is he still going? "Purple Rain, purple rain...!"

Yes because a lot o | |

Yes because a lot of people love and respect him as an artist. Despite what a lot of orgers think he is still a loved entertainer. he could not fill arenas if he was not.

He does that all the time - many of his new releases have something pulled out of the vault, although we don't always know which ones they are. (e.g. A Million Days from Musicology, Future Soul Song from 20TEN).

How do you know Future Soul Song is an oldie from the vault and not something new? "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

^- -When Prince had asked WB for Paisley Park Record, he should of played it and not let it play him. -He should of been even more intelligent by having had made it a cover up of a different kind, like a 'Printing Co.' -He should of printed all his music and distributed it too, he STILL CAN.
