Kanye is not even a great rapper skills wise, in my opinion. He's no Nas, no Rakim, no KRS-1. He got attention for his production. This is why Jay Z didn't even want to put him on as a rapper in the beginning. It was Dame Dash who did. Kanye felt remorse for going with Jay and not staying with Dame after the breakup of the Roc. Choppy, uneven flow, better now, but still, not great. Production stays on point though.

he has the basics. If you say that you have to have killer technical skills to be considered an exciting musician or creative artists, why not just throw any punk artist in the garbage. Gary Numan can't sing, but I love his music. He is an artist. A painter that can copy something like a picture is not neccesarily the best one. Stick to session work if you're just good at playing. Create something if you can create.

He doesn't have the basics to me. That's the foundation on which to build. Kanye is a very average rapper, & not considered one of the greats by far in my opinion. He seems to think so, as he has a huge ego, for very average to sub par rapping skills. His production work is on point as I've said in my earlier post. I gave him credit for that. Kanyes genius abilitys are his skills as a producer. But I doubt most people on the this board understand the skills needed for a good producer, when I came here the first thing I learned about a lot of the people here is that in their opinion anything that doesnt play an instrument = stupid skillless hack. (Which is a very bizarre thought process, but I guess thats what happens when their favorite artist plays multiple instruments)
