It's like Lil Wayne's The Carter 3 album, all the bandwagoners jump on at that point.

Same with Purple Rain, it's too commercial. I know he was aiming for but...

I still love the album, but I can't listen to it without feeling like a bandwagoner.

i think most fans don't listen to it or other normal albums as there are so many other new prince things to listen to, such as a never ending stream of bootlegs. there's plenty of fans who don't listen to the normal stuff much as they've just heard it too many times. it makes it interesting when i dj at prince nights as i'm not sick of hearing the tracks

It's not just you. I almost never listen to Purple Rain. It's boring now to me compared to the rest of his work, and the fast that I've heard so many of those songs so often doesn't help either.

I never listen to it because i'm bored titless with it, but that's not to say I think it's a bad album.....it's not, it's great.......once every 5 years or so.

We say things like that in San Diego. Like if someone "dine and dash", we'll say their a Rebel. Our definition of being a Rebel is basically being a badass, and starting trends.

I don't know about it sounding "too mainstream". It's definitely Prince's most polished recording to date though.
