It's funny that there's currently also a thread on F.U.N.K. on the board and that song is getting a lot of praise. I've been wondering if "(There'll Never B) Another Like Me" would have gotten a better reception had Prince used the "Camille" style vocals on it. That would have given it more edge and it might have suited the song's comical lyrics quite well. If I think about the more recent Prince funk tracks that I've enjoyed the most - F.U.N.K., $, Dance 4 Me, Ol' Skool Company - they've all had the speeded up, "Camille" vocals on them. Those type of tracks just often feel more energetic.

It was so funny when the instrumental version popped up on the mplssound website before we knew of the album. People were saying things like "no way is this prince, this is weak ass imposter shit. Badly done copying". And then it turned out to indeed be prince. lol I'm sure some people then went from hating to loving it. I've never minded this song as much as some of the other songs on that album, like "chocolate box", which is just annoying and grating. At least this song is pretty mute and harmless. The lyrics are silly but the music is ok. Nothing special, just ok. But I can't say I hate it.

I remember that, too. Lol! There were a lot of people saying it was a wanna be or someone just foolin' around on their keyboard. Then, when it was revealed to really be Prince, I actually just shook my head and did a facepalm. disbelief

I'm sure this wasn't quite the buzz Prince was expecting when he released it on the net without his name or vocals. I'm sure he was expecting rave reviews! THAT was the funniest part! lol

I quite like it personally but it strangely doesn't sound like a Prince song to me...

I like it. Especially enjoy the last couple of minutes.

I really like the MPLSound album, I prefer it to Lotusflow3r.

I can't imagine people skipping this track. Does that mean you actually listen tovthe rest? The only thing on MPLSound worse than this is... well, all the other songs! I can never get over it that the man released a fine cd like Lotusflower together with this crap. But I guess with Prince it will always be all or nothing. flower

This song sucks as much as grown people still using U for you, B for be, 4 for four, 2 for two/to/too and almost as non-hetero as using an eye picture for I.

It's a grower, for sure....

1. It's funky as hell.

2. It's truth.

3. The instrumental is nice

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

For a long time this was the only song from MPLSoUND which I listented to. Now I've hardly gone back and listened to that album again. So it's fair to say that I'm not a fan of that particular album at all.

i actually don't mind the album, but this song is possibly one of the worst songs associated with Prince (and i'm including Wedding Feast and Purple And Gold here). i haven't listened to it in a while but i know that when i do i will skip this song after about 8 seconds, Chocolate Box is better as is most of the album, Valentina is a bit dodgy aswell.

I think the reality is that this song is just as good as some of the songs from the 80's and it's not that he released fewer "poor" tracks then but simply that we've heard these same types of "average" tracks over and over again now for several decades... They end up sounding worse than they really are simply because they bring nothing new to the table.

If this had been a B-side to U Got The Look or something I'm sure some fans would have been lamenting that this wasn't on the album.

falloff I knew I'd get a comment on that remark. I think it's true, though. Not that it compares anywhere close to his best work but I think longterm Prince fans have more of a problem with this type of track than newbies might.
