The Max is that old??? I never knew that but I guess it explains a few things. lol

Yep - The original version of "The Max" was planned for the Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album from '88.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Seems he was getting back into that old Rave album at the time, cause it was around then that he gave Good Judy Girlfriend to Carmen, wasn't it?

blah blah blah

That is where GJG comes from, but he didn't actually pull it out for her (lol) until '91-'92 when her record was being recorded. (In similar fashion to "Chocolate", which was over 8 yrs old when The Time recorded it.)

Interesting. The piano riff has sort of a Rave / Batman -era vibe. It fits the album of course, but it always stuck out to me as being somehow different from the rest of the stuff on the album. I thought it was the clearest trace of the 80s Prince on it.

That exact partyman piano riff dates back to Purple Rain tour performances of "Baby I'm a Star".

The Max!! YAY! smile Listening 2 it now, I am reminded by the unusual mix, and wild piano playing! smile Tony M is not even not that bad here, so this definitely gets a YAY! The Symbol Album is 1 my favorite albums! Let's go! "AOooWahh!" Haha..AND I love the early sound of that "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" Riff..It is perfect and I like the darkness of it. Haha

I meant the riff on Partyman was on the Purple Rain tour, not The Max, because earlier someone said that that Max riff sounded Batman era, but his style of specific little repetitive piano riffs has been in place for a while.
