Emancipation at Big Lots

Just got home from Big Lots (discount retail store in the States). I couldn't believe my eyes, they had Emancipation there for $9.99. Seemed so wrong and sad to see a 3 disc Prince set in Big Lots. But if you need it, the price is right!

There were hundreds of copies of The Time's 'Pandemonium' at all the "Everything's A Dollar" stores around here a few years ago.

Also Graffiti Bridge was almost always in the discount bin at just about ever record store for several years.

I've seen Emancipation go for $9.99 at chain stores like FYE Music.

I also bought another one at Big Lots a couple of weeks ago.

Come on, I really like the cd's after listening to them more and more.

Then I finally made a singel disc compilation of my favorites. When I get tired of these I can go back and listen to the other stuff.

This is Princes first milestone break away from WB.
Remember this was inspired by his wife and unborn child.

I liked reading all the reviews and interview from Uptown on this cd and the beginning of the tour.

I bought emancipation in a bargin bin at woolworths for £8, it felt even more of a disgrace when I saw Britney Spears' new album selling for £15.99

What the fuck is wrong with the world?

Get this! I've seen it in a Scottish record shop for £3 - yes that's a £1 a disc. Jeez, couldn't believe it myself when I saw it. It was in the January sales and they were trying to push about 30-40 copies of it.

Is this a record? (xcuse the pun...)

exposition

I used to work for in a Virgin Records shop in England, and I hated seeing great (not counting Emancipation here.) albums cheapened by being in the bargain bin. On the one hand, I dug being able to pick up say.. a bunch of old Stones albums on the cheap, but.. I hated myself in the morning. They are worth so much more. Don't know about the States, but in England Sign O the Times, Purple Rain and the Best Ofs are still full price. Don't mean to imply that 'expense = worth' but it's nice that they still have dignity.

I saw Emancipation at FYE for $9.99 too - I picked up an extra copy. Sadly, I have a feeling that this is the final closeout, and it will be very difficult to find in years to come (not counting used).

What should really bother you is that Britney's albums sell MILLIONS in a short matter of time, and Emancipation had to use its 3-disc status to reach Platinum 1x. Overall units of Emancipation sold is not even Gold. That is a shame, since Emancipation is pretty good, and I feel that better pricing would've improved its sales.

Don't worry though - Prince's name still has incredible credibility, even if it's based in the '80's. Britney has never had credibility, and will never have it. Plus, she's on the way out in terms of popularity.

I bought a copy at a record store as a Christmas gift. It was marked, I believe, $9.99 but I got it for like $6.99.
There was some sort of further sale and discount. When the guy rang it up I was surprised. At that price, if there had been several copies, I'd have gotten 2 or 3 but it was the only one they had.

The price isn't right, but you're sure getting a whole lot and then some for your money's worth...while trying to catch up on all of Prince's music, feeling overwhelmed, I bought Emancipation for less, and it's one of my very favorite albums...what more from a fan could Prince want for someone who's very appreciative of his music to do? That they listen, or not listen at all...I think an appreciative love of his music is most important. People, if you don't have Emancipation, get it while you can, because it definetely is a CLASSIC...

CRAP.

Next to Emancipation, you'll find "Barney and Friends!" and dust-covered "Tickle Me Elmo" dolls, and row after row of "You Can't Touch This" baseball caps and "I Pity The Fool!" camoflage t-shirts.

It's the White-trash Wal-Mart.

That's right, WAL MART is classy compared to this place.
