I love how prince plays mj music Just shows how music over rides everything..
He knows mj never played his music or even wanted to talk about prince..But prince puts that all aside , no ego and just plays music that is good...regardless of who it is
He knows the perception people have of him and mj but he stills shows love to mj and gives a few subliminal signs of respect when 'Don't stop till you get enough plays.'
Mj would have never done a ccover of a prince song..gotta respect prince for being the bigger man in that sense

Parts of 'It's gonna be a beautiful night' were played on a MJ 'tour'.
I wish Prince stayed well away from MJ's 'music'.

WTF r u talking about? MJ was the biggest fan of Prince...Prince was everything MJ was not and wished he could be...It's well documented their mutual respect for each other...MJ named his kid 'Prince'...and that wasn't a coincidence....a hope that his son would be able to experience what MJ couldn't...a childhood which allowed Prince to mature at his own rate...not the rate of the microscope of the world...

ahaha the question is what the fuck r u talking about..You paste my words and don't relate anything of our own to them?
I didn't said mj never liked or respected prince..Imo he did..ALOT. But he never showed it on stage..Never covered a full song or mentioned him in interviews...I didn't know about the beautiful night bit...Could you point me towards that perhaps?

Please. MJ naming his son Prince had NOTHING to do with Prince the singer. MJ's grandfather and great grandfather were named Prince. It's a FAMILY name and that's who his son was named after. I mean really, as if MJ was so obsessed with Prince that he'd name his son after him . Only Prince fams would say that.
And I don't think Prince was everything MJ wished he could be at all. MJ was an exceptional talent in his own right and mega successful. Why would he want to be Prince?
MJ was envious of the respect and acclaim Prince got. There was some jealousy on MJ's part about that I believe but I don't think he ever wanted to be like him.
And MJ has acknowledged what a great talent Prince is before, but never spoke much about him and why should he really? MJ was not asked about Prince very often in interviews, whereas Prince was asked about MJ several times in interviews, so it makes sense that Prince has mentioned MJ more than MJ mentioned him. Why would MJ just bring Prince's name up randomly?
MJ spoke about people who influenced him often like James Brown, Jackie Wilson, etc. Why would he often talk about Prince?
And also why would MJ cover Prince's music OP? Prince tends to do lots of covers in his concerts. MJ did not do many covers as a solo artist at all. Prince's music is great the way it is anyway, why would MJ cover his music? I know if MJ had to cover Prince's music, y'all would have a fit on here lol. I'm glad he didn't.
Prince likes doing covers and digs some J5/MJ stuff so it's not a big deal if he or his band (Because really I have never heard Prince sing an actual MJ/J5 song, someone else always does vocals) cover one or two MJ songs. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

You are clueless.
#1 - Michael considered Prince a genius and did listen to his music. He attended at least one show on the Purple Rain tour, there's a famous picture of him reading an article about Prince in a newspaper, and furthermore, they were actually friends. They would share rare Sly Stone bootlegs with each other and MJ went out to Paisley Park at least once and played basketball with P.
#2 - There's a famous story about Michael and Quincy, and how the synths on "Thriller" were made to sound like the synths on "1999", after Quincy played the song to Michael during the final recording sessions.
#3 - As mentioned, Michael's band would play "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night" on the Bad tour.
#4 - Michael and Quincy wanted Prince to duet on "Bad", remember?
#5 - Last year, ?uestlove from The Roots purchased a tape that contained hours of "behind the scenes" unleaked footage of Michael and Eddie Murphy at the video shoot for their duet "Whatzupwithu?". During the tape, you hear the following (paraphrased) in the conversation at one point:
Michael - "He's a genius!!! but...... I can beat him!"
I think that says it all about the respect they had for each other but also the competitiveness.
There's other points I could bring up but I'm gonna stop there for now.
I appreciate how other people might be a fan of one more than the other, or even a fan of one but not the other, but for ME, they are my two favorite artists of all time and are the yin to each others yang. Both of them are as close as it gets to being the most complete artist, each missing something that the other has. |

That's because Prince is awesome. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I don't know why some fans still get so uppity about picking sides in this non-existent MJ/Prince thing, you guys still swapping the free stickers you got with Look In too? (Showing age there )

I really love both... I wish Prince did some more tribute to MJ when he passed away, like covering a song with his own voice... But that wont happen anyway.
I remember during the 98 show in France, some stupid french punk guy came on stage and grab Prince mic. Then he yield in front of the whole audience "Who is the best Prince or Michael??". Then when Pince took back the mic, you can even hear the guy saying at very low volume "go away fucker". Then Prince, ran to Ophelie Winter and asked her what the guy said. And the rest of the song, Prince try to imitate Michael famous "HiiiiHIIII". I think you can check it on the boot return to zenith from sabotage.

Totally agree with everything you say here in your post! Thank you for sharing the story with ?uestlove too! I remember reding that! MJ & Prince are both my favorite artists ever, and there should not be a line of disrespect regarding the two. They are complete in many ways, and fill out the rest! It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I always wonder why Prince never sings MJ's songs in his show & lets the background singers do it. But sings other artist songs.
will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I know right!! He knows who the king is and playing his songs is a proper tribute and respect. I wish he would sing it though instead of those aweful girls in the band. they cant sing at all!! I miss Rosie more and more hearing them sing

please, prince never liked mj.
1. Prince writes 98% of whats on the albums, MJ 5%
prince knows all this, sure he might respect the 5% of music mj actually writes, but he does not respect him as a person, and never wanted anything to do with him, who would? Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same 2 my brain And I'm high, so high
