If I'm not mistaken, this is what triggered this site, Housequake and others to form an alliance against him and he in turn got Housequake offline (or his people did) and he released PFunk.

So what did Prince do when he started playing in bands?

He played COVERS!

Live or on record, a tribute or not, it all doesn't matter. When you sell tickets to a live show where you play covers, you make money off other people's work. Perhabs even much more these days than when you record a cover and try to sell it. When you do covers to pay tribute, or to show how good you can sing a certain tune, or play a certain groove, whatever.

It couldn't be because many of his classics had curse words. Even the sexual songs were so subtle he could change the words and it probably wouldn't matter. Who knows with him though?
