Not all artists feel like Prince does about people covering their music. A lot don't mind. So if Prince covers their work and they don't care how is that hypocritical?

No, he specifically mentioned how he doesn't mind fans singing his songs.

Maybe he gets permission off the other artists before he covers their songs? (even although he doesn't need it legally) and he just gets pissed off when others cover his songs without his permission / blessing?

And I would say playing a cover live isn't any different than releasing it as Prince gets paid for his time on stage, so he basically gets paid for the covers he's playing in that time. But it's up to Prince what he thinks on that, and I guess he likes double standards a lot

What's with the Kiss cover on Happy Feet by the way? He must have approved of that as he was personally involved in that movie by writing Song of the Heart, not?

What's the difference then really? That in one case you sell the song by performing it live and in the other by selling copies of it?
