I've always thought Emancipation as great in places, but too much filler.

It would've made a killer 12 track CD.

This would have been my version. I no particular order. What do you think?

It's a little long and I don't claim it to be the definitive edit or anything like that but it's not a bad selection. I think I should have left out "Style" though, although it's still a pretty cool track.

I would've taken out all the covers. None of them do much for me and Id rather have Prince originals. A single CD would have definitely been a really good album, but there were too many decent tracks to justify not including them. Perhaps a doube album would have been a better idea. 3 CDs was just too much.
My feelings about Emancipations problems were simply that it was too polished.

Actually, I'm quite surpised that so far we
seem to be agreeing on almost 80% of the tracks.

I would settle for

4.) Goodbye (yeah i know, but i was recorded around the same time)

Whatever you put on it, it should start with "20/20".

Such a shame that he took it off the album before
release. It would have made for a very fine
opening track. Kind of ethereal and weird.

Funny thing is that whenever I try to compile a single
disc of "emancipation" material, the first songs that
come to mind are the ones that were recorded during the
period but never made it onto the album, tracks like

Sarah
She Gave Her Angels
20/20
Journey To The Center Of Your Heart


All of which sound more "organic" and real, compared
to half the stuff on "Emancipation".

It's also quite hard to compile a "Best Off Emancipation"
when the title track sucks so bad.

Anyone who wouldn't include joint 2 joint is a homo. It's the only real funk track out of 30. Emancipation is just sad.

i don't think i could edit "emancipation" down to one disc... i could make it a 2-disc set easily... i actually wish prince would have only released it as a 2-disc set... but i like too much of it to cut it down to one cd...

Emancipation is a great album.I do not like every song on it, but I'm always ready 2 absorb everything Prince has 2 offer. Btw, how can u have a best of cd of this album without Joint 2 Joint?
