Okay, you can't tell me he's NOT embracing YouTube through Andy now.

Andy Allo just posted another link to a YouTube video on her Facebook page. This time, it's a cover of "Come Together". No video just audio.

C'mon. He has to be endorsing this. He's using Andy to post videos so he doesn't come across as a hypocrite due to his stance on YouTube until now. Not that coming across as a hyprcrite ever worried him before.

Nice cover. It's pretty obvious that he's working through her, or else she would have been fired by now.

Plus, you have to consider how Andy got access to the nicely edited files of the live shows. You think someone as guarded about bootlegs as Prince is haphazardly sharing the files with her, especially after she "leaked" the first one. You think Prince is editing audio files on his laptop and leaving it unattended for her to rummage through behind his back? I think not.

If she has access to the files to be able to upload them in the first place, she has them for a reason.

Remember, he was also rallying against YouTube at the same time when he was giving that Shelbey chick video files to post during the LotusFlower era.

I think there's no way Prince doesn't know about this. As soon as I read that videos were being released to YouTube, I immediately figured Prince himself was behind it.

I think he's kinda coming around about the YouTube thing. Or at least enough that he puts stuff up for a little while, then takes it back down. It's a start.

so maybe having someone young around him has opened him up to things like that. people can change their minds. of course if that is the case people will just see him as a hypocrite, but hey....gotta love his fans

Yeah, knowing how so many people around here immediately assume the worst about Prince, I expect a lot of whining about hypocrisy when, like you said, he probably just changed his mind about it and realized that YouTube isn't that bad and no one is trying to take anything from him by putting his stuff up on there.

Yeah - Prince knows she's posting these videos and approves of it ...

From Dr. Funkenberry

NPG band member and friend of the purple one Andy Allo released the above gem on her Facebook page and Twitter today. From Prince's concert last night.. Thanks, Andy - always great to hear Prince in such great form.

The video above was posted on Andy Allo's youtube account and then taken down by an NPG Records Copyright claim. But...it was given to her, right? He wants you to hear it in all it's sound board quality greatness, right? So we are stepping in and hoping we found a loophole for it to stay up.

UPDATE: It Is Now Back Up. Thanks To Andy Allo for sharing with us all.

I think its funny that Prince's business world is SO bad that he can't even get a video up without his own people taking it down.

Are you that blind? It's called sarcasm. She's kidding. Obviously he knows. Obviously he TOLD her to write that sort of thing. Obviously he treats all unreleased material as "bootleg" (see: Jam of the Year/Face Down 1997 tape, Crystal Ball).

It's like some of you forgot your mind somewhere during your commute to work.

He's Prince. He's batshit crazy. He does weird shit. Things that you or I may think about, Prince does not. Naturally, you would assume that someone who came out so against the internet would not then leak his own videos to YouTube. You may ask yourself why he would do this if he knew people would remember his words.

Prince is an attention whore. He loves the accolades, the stage. There is a compelling force within him that demands he show off his chops. And that's what he's doing, but discreetly. This way he can show his fans, impress them a little bit to dispel some of the bad rumors of this tour, and still stay "good" on his word because HE has no ostensible connection.

Take issue with the idea of "bad rumors" and whatnot. I wouldn't call any of his recent tours failures. But he likes to silence the naysayers here and there.

Reminds me of the letter Mayte once wrote, which was clearly fed to her word for word by Prince. I imagine that he sees himself as a master puppeteer, pulling these strings, thinking that his fans won't notice ...

As we see, there's many people who really buy it! Almost as if they forgot the same song and dance happened with Cat, Wendy & Lisa, etc etc... They all were fed scripts by Prince.

i really dont even want to hear this cover material crap but i do think its fair to say that what prince is against is having all his vids and songs and outtakes and his entire catalog and live performances up on youtube .. i don't think he minds using it for brief marketing or to give people a little taste .. its more of a comercial add for his show or record than a free concert that way .. just like you can hear a single on the radio .. but the idea is to get you to buy the whole record .. you tube is so out of control that prince has to come down hard to be able to use it properly without giving away his whole concert or record for free

First off, clearly you haven't listened to any of this material.

Secondly, then make sure you DO NOT go to any Prince concert because you'll spend half the concert listening to crap.

He did it be4 with Shelbey, back in 2009: no big deal!

Andy's previous videos r already gone: it's a "hit & run" situation and Prince is just using YT as a tool to post songs 4 a few days then take 'em away. It's not endorsing YT's use of musician's music without their consent, it's just using the most convenient tool available. Noticed how "Stratus" (the 1st live song posted by Andy) was posted directly on FB, then they chose 2 use YT instead? Why? Probably because it allows non-FB members to watch them as well, who knows...

Your comments are spot on, and, additionally, I like that he’s “batshit crazy.” That’s, for my money, what drives his genius—the fact that he’s “batshit crazy”. Say’s one thing one minute, and just the opposite the next. That never bothered me. I knew it was all part of the shtick. It’s like Edna Grunderson of USA Today said a long time ago. While we never see Prince not being Prince, that is the ultimate question. Where does the act end, and where does the person begin? And he admitted as much in the VH1 interview with Chris Rock when addressing kissing the white female keyboardist and then rubbing against the black male guitar player, he simply stated, “It’s rock-n-roll.” Most times, I think that the act is the person. Fake it ‘til you make it, or fake it until you become the person you desire to be. Either way, it makes for so-so to great mythology and so-so to great music. Maybe sometimes he does think more about the mythology than the music, and for some that clearly limits or negatively affects the quality of the music. But, there is rarely an album where Prince’s isn’t thinking about or isn’t taking some specific position on life, making almost each album a concept (manifesto) album rather than just some random songs. Thus, there is method to his madness, even if his method is just plain ole madness. Be that as it may, if I have to choose between Prince’s madding method of metaphysical dichotomy and some dude trying to convince me that keepin’ it real means holdin’ my crotch while accepting nihilism as normal, I’ll take “batshit crazy” every time. Besides, as long as he can play the guitar like he does and perform like he still can, he can be as “batsit crazy” as he wants to be ‘cause “batshit crazy” is still funkier than the alternative.

Exactly what i was talking about in my "why does prince lie so much" thread

why does he do this stuff? We know its him behind all the madness.

its not a fun trick when the fans know you make up the stuff for attention.

He's 50 something years old time to hang it up.

Just keep making great music we dont need all the tom foolery.

Yes, but you seem to be missing to points. One, besides the Prince diehard fans, many mainstream and casual fans don't know it’s a trick; they still think he's mythologically weird, and, surprisingly to a diehard like yourself, are "tricked," for lack of a better term, into paying more attention to Prince than they normally would have. Of course, it does not garner as much attention as it has in the past, but it still seems to work. Just think about how much coverage his "the internet is dead" statement got. He hadn't had a week like that in a while.

*

Two, some people like the mythology in or with their music. Sure, Earth, Wind, and Fire or Parliament Funkadelic could have just worn t-shirts and blue jeans and not framed their art in mythology, but that would not have been who they are. Again, that line is often difficult to find when discussing persona, myth, man, and music. Prince is not a "realism" type of artist. He writes great songs that address or comment on "real" issue, but for him it seems that the "space odyssey" the "mystical magical ride" is the engine driving the music. Whether you or I believe that is really who he is is not as significant as that he seems to need the mystical magical persona to drive his creativity. While it is not nearly as annoying to me as it can be to others, even when it is marginally annoying, I remember that this is the "deal," the "package," that he sold us years ago. This is who he is. While Earth, Wind, and Fire or Parliament Funkadelic are not nearly as outlandish as they were thirty years ago, they have yet to stop selling/presenting the mythology as part of the music. That is just who they are. That is just how some people like their art presented.
