I became enthralled with the song itself, didn't compare it to fury have to listen again.

Thank you. I don't fully hear it, but the same depressed people have to spit their crap as they're behind a screen and can exercise their demons that way. No way would people be this rude face to face. The stupidity of the internet. Lastly, he hears it, others do too...it's all idiosyncratic. This whole picture/gif response crap....i mean wtf?! It's useless, embarrassing and childish. Go to Music: Other Artists and post that shit. Also, cotton sticks actually damage your ears more than clean them, maybe that's why you're unable to hear good music today, if this is any indication of you. Add to that, the blues (and rock blues) follow very similar patterns. Traditional Blues is a I-IV-V, and although rock-blues moves the structure around a bit more the solo patterns are typically on the minor pentatonic scale.
Pop songs follow similar patterns as well - like a I-V-vi-IV. Following is a very funny video demonstrating a HUGE list of songs following this pattern (all transposed to the key of E, so the pattern would be E-B-C#m-A ) - starts off silly, so give it a chance until the music starts.

The confusion I think on this conversation is the word 'sound'. Black and White only 'sounds' like Alphabet street due to the construction and layout of the song, which is not uncommon. The 'sound' relating to instrumentation, delivery, style and lyric really couldn't 'sound' more different. You could say that Alphabet St sounds like a ton of other songs that were written in the same pattern, but in reality, it doesn't really.

Sorry, hadn't read your post, which was rather more detailed, but I think says the same thing

OK - so I just listened and tried to figure out structurally where TylerHippie is hearing a similarity. I am away from my guitar (at work) - so I hope this is correct. I did a little searching and I think I am at least close.
Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower" is in C#m, and pretty much follows: C# B A B (although he is typically tuned down a half step).
Prince "Fury" can be considered in Gm, and pretty much follows: Gm7 F Cm7 Gm7 F
So although the chord patterns are different (I vii vi vii) vs (I vii iv I vii) both use a jump from the root (I) to the seventh (vii). This used over and over does creat a certain vibe and may be what TylerHippie is hearing......
Or - I could be completely wrong - just having some fun trying to figure it out.....

I immediately thought of Hendrix when I heard this song on SNL. He didn't even bother to make cover it up--it's very obviously Hendrix influenced.
What makes it non-Hendrix like is the production and the synth.

Everyone agrees that Delirious sounds like Hound dog thought, right

Actually I had not heard that before - but based on your post I guess that's a common one. You can hear it - same chords....

[Edited 8/4/11 8:28am] Your almost right! But do you notice how after every verse, both songs kick into "overdrive"(I'm talking about vibe/speed)?

Saying Fury is a version of All along the watch tower is like saying Johnny Bravo is someones version of Bugs Bunny. Yeah...they all have a couple of similar elements but are all DISTINCTLY different and unique in a VAST number of ways.
I could possibly say Animal Kingdom(I HATE this song btw...i never pass a chance to say so either...it's my life mission to have ALL copies destroyed) is Prince's version of Sex Machine(Sly Stone). But IT'S NOT. They use a similar tone modulation, ...but thats as FAR a it goes. One might want to say the bass line in Sex Machine(Sly Stone) inspired The Ride. Whats more factual is that they're BOTH fairly typical blues bass expressions.
Next thing that's gonna happen in this thread is somone then drawing a conclusin that The Ride and Animal Kingdom are remixes of the same song. Bullocks. [Edited 8/6/11 9:00am]
