Let's Talk Dream Factory.

I love this album, it's my second favorite behind Around The World In A Day. I would've loved it if he had've hold off on Parade in some way and released Dream Factory in late 86'. I prefer Dream Factory over Parade, even though they're different albums. What I'm basically saying is, Dream Factory should've been released instread of Parade. I know most of the songs on Dream Factory were recorded from 85-late 86, that's why I give it and end of the year release. He could've released Parade in 87'.

But hey, this my view on it.

Side A

  1. "Visions"
  2. "Dream Factory"
  3. "Train"
  4. "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker"
  5. "It"

Side B

  1. "Strange Relationship"
  2. "Starfish & Coffee"
  3. "Interlude"
  4. "Slow Love"
  5. "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man"

Side C

  1. "Sign 'O' the Times"
  2. "Crystal Ball"
  3. "A Place In Heaven"

Side D

  1. "The Cross"
  2. "Last Heart"
  3. "Witness 4 the Prosecution"
  4. "Movie Star"
  5. "All My Dreams"

This album is a masterpiece and should have been released after Parade. It was an expansion of the experimental genius that he started on the Around The World In A Day and Parade albums.

Oh hell yeah, your right. It should've came after Parade. Parade would've been weird in 87'.

The Pimpsandwich (below) version is the best in terms of quality, art and.....everything imo, Sab's version is a good one too.

It's a masterpiece. Last Heart, A Place In Heaven, All My Dreams...

However, Train doesn't convince me, and It and Slow Love aren't that strong.

Have you noticed how brilliant would have been Side C? Sign O' The Times, Crystal Ball and A Place In Heaven. It can't get better than that.

It would've been a great ending to the trinity of experimental albums that he released from 1985-1987. nod

^^YES!

IMO that's the best configuration of Dream Factory, too bad not all the songs are available in excellent quality. However, I would replace "Dorothy Parker" and "It" with "Train" and "Baby Go-Go" since I prefer them in the Sing o the Times album.

Stop going on about ATWIAD!!

It's not a case of Dream ever being released instead of Parade, it was planned and mostly recorded after Parade - it would have been instead of Sign O The Times...but Prince released that as it consisted the tracks he did without the revolution. If he didn't disband the Revolution then it would almost certainly have been released.

However, IMO Prince's best ever album would have been the original 1988 config of Rave Un2TheJoyFantastic.

It's impossible for you to know that given 80% of those songs on that list are not circulating. (That and there is no telling just how legitimate that list is.)

Re: Dream Factory - I am glad it didn't get released. Crystal Ball is way better and SOTT is a perfect combination of both.

No way....Rave would have been much better than Batman which was really a commercial attempt to stay in the Mainstream.

I know but, it wouldn't been a risky thing to release Rave after Lovesexy. Rave proabaly would been Lovesexy part 2(not music wise, reception wise).

There's no hits on Rave, proabaly "Pink Cashmere" and "Rave..."

Batman was a smart thing. Rave should've came in 1990.

Yes I think P realised that Lovesexy didn't do as well commercially so he tried to stay in the mainstream with Batman, plus he always loved Batman, it was one of the first tunes he ever played as a boy.

ATWIAD is a patchy affair - there are some gems - Pop Life, Condition of The Heart, Temptation however it just seems a little odd compared to other things he did. I prefer the unreleased version of ATWIAD which has the drum beat - its better IMO.

Once you discover more of his music you won't find it so amazing is my opinion!

Talk about songs that match your name...such as Hippy Blood by Ingrid Chavez wink
