Prince and Amy Winehouse live in 07-share your memories/knowledge

Just watching the clip of these talents sharing the spotlight on that beautiful night in September 2007. It was such a priveledge to be there on what turned out to be an aftershow of pure bliss. I've often wondered how much Amy , P and the band would have rehearsed beforhand, what was sung, did P give her some advice [he must have done!].

Anyway If you were there share you memories.

The things that standout for me have to be the sheer element of surprise - the closed red curtain, the 'other wordly keyboard' sounds that started and then THE VOICE!. OMG that voice, say what you want about what state she was in at the time but as soon as she hit the first line you knew that this was a truly special talent. As the curtain pulled back she looked so fragile, we were all on the edge just willing her to get through and IMHO she was amazing.

As for Prince and the band- they did her proud.

All i can think of right now is 'what could have been', she could have had a career of doing nothing but covers and owned them all!. RIP - hope you teach the angels how to sing!

I think a truely great talent will up their games, raise their own level and therefore their unique talents for the occassion.

Amy knew she had to be on top form if she was on stage with prince and whilst she is not the easiest person to duet with, She looked wonderful here and is a moment of beautiul chemisty between two exceptionally talented people.

I thought prince might do a tribute to her in Ireland but I guess he did it around the time it happened, regardless of the place..But since he is never in the Britain much, I thought he might have done it on Saturday.

Amy was someone who wold have lasted and been remembered like Prince..And prince being the aware man he is, knew this from the off...Just like he brings Esperanza Spalding and Janelle Monae Alicia on stage together

It was an amazing night of awesomeness that I feel privelaged to have seen. The atmosphere from the moment you walked in the room. People were soaking up every last ounce of awesome not knowing how long it would be before Prince was back. There was crazy dancing all over the place before he even hit the stage and it was a great party atmosphere from the get go.

But lets be real Amy sucked ass big time. She was obviously off her face and Beverly Knight wiped her off the stage a few songs later.

It was just amazing.

Amy was sitting next to us in King's Row that night. She was very polite and spoke to us.

She seemed very distracted, both Blake and herself were on their phones constantly.

We got the impression they were trying to sort a "deal" out. It's terribly sad though, she really looked lost. I know Blake has been vilified by the press, but he seemed to us at least like a very sweet guy. They were obviously very much in love.

The performance? One of the best I have ever seen. It was as if something magical was happening on stage. The way Prince strolled around her riffing on his guitar was astounding.

sad

Thanks for the link. Amy had such a strong, powerful and unique voice. Her and Prince together were amazing! It is so sad that she passed away when she had so much more to give, whether she knew it or not. sad

No, about an hour or so.

It was very strange to be staring into her beehive for such a long time. She was tiny in real life and very beautiful.

Very frail looking at the time.

I've only watched the video, and never seen Amy live, but I love her voice and the emotions she could put into a song. She was almost like a modern Billie Holiday type of singer. Prince's guitar playing on that performance was out of this world!!

when i heard the intro to love is a losing game with the curtain down, i said to catpark "imagine if amy was behind the curtain" and when the curtain opened she was standing right in front of us (as we were front row). she was out of it a bit and i think as princes arrangement was different to hers it threw her a bit

afterwards someone gave her a copy of the bootleg. she said she couldn't remember being there

they weren't videotaping the indigo2 shows, but on the final night they were filming it (with a single hand held camera) and taking photographic stills. there were a few taken with prince with his back to the audience and arms outstretched to show him in front of the audience. they were mostly filming from the left side of the stage. i can't remember if they shot amy or not, but hopefully they did. there was some plan to make a documentary of backstage footage. there was also a plan to pro film the second last nights concert with extra cameramen but that was also scrapped. of course there is the main gig footage shot from the set cameras

I refuse 2 believe she didn't remember being on stage with Prince. Prince knew he had something special that night, good memories 4 him & the audience that was there.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

It was a great start to a great night. The place went wild when she was there as the curtain opened. I thought her performance was a little shaky at the start but improved as the song went on.

I'll never forget the way she was looking at Prince while he was soloing, she looked in awe of him.

RIP sad

That’s MY VIDEO FOOTAGE on Dr F’s website!!! Wow, great to see how these things get out there and stay out there. It’s my dulcet tones at 1:11 asking ‘Any bouncers watching me’?

As for the night itself, ‘twas a great one. At the beginning of the day I didn’t have tickets for either show. Thanks to ‘ellieadore’ (a big hello if you’re still around these parts!) I got a balcony ticket for the aftershow, and managed to get a ‘return’ from the box office just before the main show started. Oddly enough the guy I was next to at the main show I met again at Hop Farm.

At Indigo2, the girl I’d plonked myself next to (and ended up dating for the next 2 months) assured me that the purple curtain being down meant Prince was in da house. I had only a 2 out of 4 record at that point of seeing him in Indigo2, so wasn’t being too optimistic.

As a few have mentioned, Love is a Losing Game opened the show but the curtain was still down. I didn’t think it was anything other than Shelby J at that point. I’d seen her perform it already at both a main show and an aftershow. Then the curtains opened and it was Amy! I’d spent the lead up both drinking myself senseless and showing off the video quality on my futuristic Nokia N95. So the girl suggested I try to video Amy. Which is why I missed the first verse and guitar spot. It was tough videoing at Indigo2, and sure enough at the end I got grabbed by the bouncers who asked for my phone. I said I’d only taken a photo (which I had earlier), and they demanded that they watch me delete it in front of them. I obliged like the good boy I was and enjoyed the rest of what was a simply fantastic night. I listened to the audio bootleg in full again last week.

It would be great to have proper video footage of the event. Princey, sort it out! Can’t believe it didn’t even merit a space on Indigo Nights! I’ll even allow him some post production work to get rid of the horrid feedback which spoils part of the opening (not on the video).

An incredible performance by both. Prince’s guitar work is sublime. And just look at the classy way be hands back the floor to Amy at 1:46. Definitely a night to remember.

nice one. shame you didn't get more footage. any footage at all from indigo2 is rare and the quality of what i've seen is garbage. i remember showing people that clip years ago and they were surprised it existed as they hadn't seen it before. i posted it to another site just after she died and i think it might have reminded people of it's existance and brought it to drfb's attention (as he's an orger)

there is another full audience recording of the show in even better quality than the one most people have (i think there are two circulating, one has a screamer), but just not circulating. shame we only got a partial soundboard on the official cd and not the full show

one of the 2 main highlights of the 02 residency was the 'new power trio' and amy + P live.

Always remember P saying after the song "I got tears", I think he was welling up alhtough he kept his shades on...the song is amazing and so was she...

i thought it was horrible to look at. she was not in the moment at all, not moving, looking around her if she was scared, she seemed to miss the cues in the song.

it made me sad actually.

I think this pairing reveals Prince's lack of understanding regarding the song. Its a subtle, defeated piece of music. Prince takes it and makes it a huge, bombastic, histrionic sounding arrangement - totally missing the point of the song.

Its about loss, being wounded.. not hip thrusting guitar solo's and huge band stabs.

Its his interpretation, sure. Just doesn't work for me.

It's obvious her cared for Amy though and it is a sad loss to music. Think she was capable of much more.

For me it was a magical moment when the curtains were raised to see Amy dressed in white - bathed in white spotlights - an enduring image that I'll never forget. Totally unexpected as people commented on previously and the excitement levels were high as it was to be Princes' final performance of his 21 night residency - a purple summer to remember. Sure she missed a couple of cues - but the song was rejigged to incorporate Prince soloing after each verse. One thing that sticks out for me was at the end of the song Prince said to the audience "You got something special there - take care of her". I also remember that her dickhead husband, who was watching from the wings, went to say something to Prince or shake his hand, but Prince blanked him - which I thought "Fair play".

Sad that she died, man.
