The things on that list are things you pick up after being a fan for a long time. Speaking for myself, 20 years is more than enough time to understand all of Prince's female relationships. How could you not?? He recorded with most of them.

ok mister, but ive only been a fan for 2 years. i know the order of his releases, and i have all the high quality bootlegs i could find. i had more but i deleted low quality ones (except those i really liked) because id never listen to them. and i know for the most part what era is which by his pics. the reason i said its exaggerating is because those things shouldnt be required for you to be considered a fan.

...I think you see what you want to see, because honestly - when I first started hanging out here years ago, I was taken aback at just HOW frequently and viciously Prince fans bash Prince.

This level of hostility towards an artist by their own fanbase, is something I've never ever witnessed before in any other fan community. Again - I think most people are in agreement that worshipping any musical artist and thinking they can do no wrong is absolutely lame - so that isn't what I'm speaking on. I'm not saying people shouldn't have the right to disagree with comments Prince makes, or give their honest views when it comes to the music - if you don't like something, you don't like it, and have every right to express that.

I'm speaking on the fact that 80 percent of the time I come to this section, the general tone is extremely, extremely negative toward Prince; going beyond mere disagreement to outright insulting, berating, attacking.... if the header of this site didn't say 'fan community', I'd have never guessed in a million years that you guys consider yourselves 'fans' - that's how hostile you guys come across. I've never gone onto any other fan forum and witnessed fans talking shit about the artist all.the.time, at this level of viciousness.

If I were Prince and read this place, I'd just throw up my hands and not give a fuck, pump you guys for as much money as I possibly could, then tell you to go fuck yourselves.

This is not the only Prince fan website. If you find the org an unpleasant place to spend time, why not hang out at another Prince forum? Or start your own?

Do I prescribe to all of the "qualifications" to be a Prince fan? Certainly not! Haha, But I have been following him ever sense I realized his/art/creations BOLD existence in my life.

But what actually qualifies one to be a Prince Fan anyways? The albums you own? The concerts you have attended? The era's you identify with? The similarities within his life and yours?

It might be a mixture of all of those things. I am balanced, but I know that I, -Dentify with much of him over his life. I have yet to hear most of his discography. It's an adventure, and one of the greatest things about being a Prince fan; is the high expectations.

These expectations are not all the time predictable but that is what makes it great! Determining what is real depends sometimes; on how relative the artist and their music is to their audience.

ALL I know is that I am a FAN!

I was in awe when I first heard Prince play His music and the sound of his voice were amazing from the start. I have enjoyed his diverse music for many years and I consider myself a REAL fan

I think for me it comes with the music. You can disagree with some of his personal viewpoints, some people didn't agree with his lifestyle when he first emerged and some don't agree with it now. Some have talked about his comments but I think what keeps people to remain fans is the music. That's really the reality of most artists whether people believe it or not. If the music ain't happening, people stop being a fan. Some folks are fickle and only like a certain artist when it's the popular thing to do but those who stay around, that always constitutes a "real fan".

Maybe the real question that needs to be asked is: how many fans are FAKE fans?

That's what I love about the Prince fan community. That there's so many people who aren't scared to call people on their bs involving Prince. That you could even come to the conclusion there may be fake fans is inspiring. If you wanna see a site that has legitimately more haters than fans, go to Courtney Love's old fan site KittyRadio. She had similar fuck ups with her internet presence as Prince did and her fans are QUITE vividly critical of her every move since 1998.
