You guys are delusional lol . I love the way the Prince fan community likes to collectively pretend they're these whimpering little innocents, always getting shat on and stepped on by big bad Prince, when honestly, the majority of the time it's usually you guys antagonizing and disrespecting him in some way first. And don't say I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, I remember the whole 'PFU!' campaign the forums started, which led to Prince verbally bitchslapping all of us in a song.

Or how the other day really bad sound problems forced him to end a show early and jackasses flooded the boards shitting on Prince for it. I would've told you all to go fuck yourselves and cancelled the next show, or went ahead and showed up and phoned it in just to get the money out of your pockets; Prince did like a three-hour rehearsal, busting his ass to make sure the sound was on point and then went on stage and performed his ass off. He's a better person than me, I'm telling you.

If you always shit on someone, you can't be surprised if sometimes they get fed up and shit on you right back.

I honestly think that had he not have fucked about over the years and actually did what he said he'd do he would not get half as much hate as he does. So you think then that if he actually gave 10 cd's worth of vault material like it was rumoured through the whold lotusfukkup fiasco, or 20ten:deluxe (!) had actually been released or just actually releasing proper album/singles/videos like a normal artsit does he would still get the same amount hate? I don't think so.

First, oh f you're right, sorry for confusing you by saying that was a "thread". That's a reply.

Second, What else are they supposed to listen to? They can easily move on to other artists and stop listening to Prince. But since they don't do that, I see them as obsessed fans. (AGain, I'm talking about the ones who talk shit about EVERY DAMN THING Prince does/has been doing for 2 decades.)

Thirdly, Some said "He's been musically dead since (certain album)." I interpret this as "He's future work will be shit as well"

1. Die hard fans don't stop being a artist fan because he's not meeting their standards. And I'm sure no one has been complaining about Prince for 20 years. Your just going crazy now.

2. How saying "He's been musically dead since (certain album)". Count toward his future albums?

You think when people heard Graffiti Bridge they were saying his future albums are going to suck?

Complaining things about he's work from last 2 decades. IF you honestly say U saw NO ONE saying he's 80's work was the only thing worth listening to, and the rest is mediocre or shit, you're lying.

And there's been a THREAD about his new album by dr.funkenberry (turned out to be a misunderstanding), and people HAVE made jokes about how shitty that album will be, without giving it a listen.

What's funny to me is that you're defending some fans even though you don't even know what they have been truly saying. U just think what they're saying is expressing their own opinion even though there have been many occasion where they were simply "mocking" Prince and not give out valid criticism. Well, excuse me for not being like you. I'm not interested in being a kiss ass to old overly sarcastic fans constant negativity.

2. Exactly, jokes! People jocked about Batman, and people love it on the org.

3. I actually know what they have been saying. They're saying how he's playing the same songs

good grief.

I don't think it's necessarily that so much as, the tone on this section of the boards is overwhelmingly negative for this to supposedly be a Prince fan forum.

You can act as flakey and flighty as Prince did in the middle-80s and no one really complains because you're following through with ground-breaking music and putting on great shows. When you're giving people what they want your eccentricities get excused or at least seem less annoying.

When you act flakey and you don't follow through, however, people get irritated. Of course Prince can do whatever he pleases, but if you're NOT people-pleasing, people will NOT be pleased.

Prince has the right to be a flake and others have a right to complain about it.

Prince has put in place a standard that he is now having trouble living up to. Of course people are going to feel let down. That can easily turn to anger. The one artistic constant in popular music sudden SEEMS like it's missing. How's that positive?

Michael Jackson worship is totally unfounded. There is little actual evidence that he deserves even a fraction of what he gets. The negaticity aimed at Prince, while certainly exagerrated and grounded in a stupid sense of fan entitlement, stems from ACTUAL events.

I think the hate is excessive, but totally natural. Prince can no longer shit in people'e mouths and call it a sundae.

The problem with some fans is that they have standards, and arent going to lower them. Of course Prince fans arent going to love it when Prince says something incredibly stupid or releases an album thats incredibly bad.

You complain about fans complaining about EVERYTHING, they dont complain about everything, they critize things that deserve to be critized.

I don't see 'negativity', all i see is different viewpoints of an artist we all admire.

I would be very bored of this site if all we did was praise whatever he did.

I've been into Prince's music since 1986, and have seen him a decent amount of times at main shows and after shows. Inspite of that, I have no qualms whatsoever in being critical of him should i feel that way.

But, according to a lot of people of thse fan sites, I can't be a fan if i dare be critical.

Listen...I'm sure you are very intelligent...Let me explain to you why some people are getting tired of the pitchfork mentality that has been popping up on the Org lately...The thing is that most fan sites dedicated to artists are usually on the positive side...The tricky part is how overtly positive does a fan site need to be? To me there should be middle ground...You should be allowed to say that a song sucks...You should be allowed to say an artist is acting like a dick...I'm down for that...

The rub comes when criticism becomes over-the-top and phony...The Operator of a fan site (Org) is supposed to set the pace...But when you go to the frontpage and the headlines section reads like a tabloid site it opens the doors for the loons (If I was coming to the Org's frontpage to find out about Prince releasing a tribute to Amy Winehouse or the read headlines about his European gigs beyond a gig having bad sound, I would be sadly dissapointed)...

Again, criticism is one thing....But ask yourself this....What other fan site do you know where fans from Springsteen and Radiohead to Rihanna and Katy Perry complain seemingly every day about how setlists have become too predictable? How many fan sites do you know where some "fans" are allowed to blatantly lie (one cat posted in the Concerts section that fans were panning his recent Germany gig and that Prince wasn't playing to a packed house, which turned out to be highly inaccurate)?

To me it's all about balance....And strangly the Org seems to be ripe with weird negativity that is losing that balance....

I don't belong to any other fansite so i can't comment on that point. But I do know you cannot compare Prince to any of them apart from Bruce Sprinsgteen (relating to back catalogue, amount of tours etc, quality of songwriting and composing/musicianship etc). And if you do take Bruce as an example, you would most likely be right. But why? Only a Bruce Springsteen fan who knows his/her stuff can make a proper comparison.

I do think there there is a balance here. There's a lot of positive threads here, and of course there a threads expressing some dissapointment (for whatever reasons). But it seems a lot of fans just refuse to accept criticism of Prince, and the ridiculous label of 'hater' is all too frequently thrown about around here. The word itself is ridiculous anyway - totally exaggerated and a blatant short cut to thinking.

And I would bet that the majority of members of this website who are labelled a 'hater', would in fact still name Prince as their favourite artist, regardless of how dissatisfied they may feel with him. Surely thay can't be here just to kill some time and annoy loads of people!

A real fan is some1 that doesnt say yes and amen to everything he does just because it´s from Prince.

It´s more some1 that basically loves his music and concerts and wants to support him but however

can give constructive criticism.

In my defense, I just became a fan last year, so I wasn't around for the websites, only have a few albums, have a few bootlegs, know only his 80's and early 90's discography in order, know some proteges, so...meh.

[Edited 8/1/11 8:31am]

To answer your question, yes, some folks are here to annoy people on this site...lol

Again, I'm not down with the pack mentality....If a gig sucks let it be known...If a song sucks let it be known...If an artist is acting like a dick let it be known...

But it's the over-the-top complaints and bitching that's making me shake my head....

Obsessive fandom cuts both ways...The same person who complains that Prince is doing the same show (after acknowledging that they have seen Prince in concert 10 times...) is just as wacky as a fan who cries because I gave Prince the Midget nickname..

The problem is fans who come on the board to complain and add little else are shocked and mystified when other fans shit on them for doing so...On a "Prince fan" site no less...lol

To me that's the real issue....

Well your name is smoothcriminal... neutral

In my defense, I just became a fan last year, so I wasn't around for the websites, only have a few albums, have a few bootlegs, know only his 80's and early 90's discography in order, know some proteges, so...meh.

Well I'll give you 6 months, and then you'll be a fan.

Just goes to show, asking who is or what makes a true fan is impossible question, because it means something different to different people.

I'll tell you what I find funny.

When Prince opened up his own official forum there was a mass exodus from a section of the fan community over to it. There was a crowd of "fams" who only really wanted to talk about Prince at Princes house. I was a member their too and it was mostly threads about how great everything was.

At this point, the org had never been so peaceful. Activity didn't stop, but it because calmer. Threads became about the music, the only real thing we as fans are well placed to comment on. Differences of opinion was fine. There were no idolisation / swooning picture threads that read like a teen mag. Some could even say is because a little boring.

But when Prince closed the official forum, there was a mass exodus back to the org. All sorts of nothing threads started up and terms like "haters" and "naysayers" because the new language people on the org that didn't like everything. The venomous tongue and tone came WITH a small minority of fams, who spend their time pointing the finger at anyone else.

Oh, and the irony? One of the reasons given for the shut down of the official threads was because of the growing negative tone from the fams. So where is the real problem?

So are Prince's fans good/bad? That depends on your own outlook. All I know is that the fan base is a reflection of the artists own actions.

These last two have nothing to do with being a fan. #8 is very strange and #9 is for silly tabloid readers.
