Ohhh IMO, the Purple Rushes every beginner Prince fan's dream set. It's rehearsals, shows, and televised live performances from 83-85. It's a must have, even if selected shows have been upgraded afterwards.

City Lights are volumes of concerts from 80-85. Very popular upon original release and has been somewhat recently remastered.

Get both sets and listen to every track because it will change ur life. I strongly recommend reading up on the correlated eras in DMSR by Per Nilsen before or during listening so you can have a clue what you're listening to to appreciate it more.

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Please do not pay for bootlegs

$425 is a total and utter rip off, in fact $1 would be a rip off.

You mention that you are a new fan, if I were you I would concentrate in obtaining the official albums before delving into collecting bootlegs. If you are willing to spend hundreds of dollars on bootlegs then I assume you are serious about music yes?

Then collect the official stuff first, there is a ton of it, if you have already done that then by all means begin your bootleg hunt but for christ sake dont part with a penny for bootlegs, unless you have more money than sense.

Sorry if this sounds like me lecturing you, it's just I see a lot of people on this site claiming to be huge fans and worrying about buying fridge magnets and bootlegs and shit when they don't even have all the albums yet.

Just my opinion. Do what you want to of course lol

That would be upto 1986

Btw The Sabotage label has 'remastered and extended' these series recently

but all they've really done is add a few concerts that where already made available

for free by fanlabels

^That.

Many people come here saying they are TRUE fans and calling others all kind of names just because those others have opinions (based on reality and experience) and then you discover that they don't even have the full official discography, or have just lousy mp3 downloads.

And, in this case, after just 8 months, I'm certain the OP lacks the majority of the albums (at least in hard copy), so why worry about bootlegs (and very especially be willing to pay for them, which demonstrates how clueless the OP is) when the basic work is still undone?

Hey! What's the major difference between the 1999 and 2003 edition? Besides the price?

Oh, blue light...

No difference I would not think, the cheaper one is just a reprint, same contents.

Actually on the topic of Purple Rush, does anyone know which discs/volumes have been superseded by better quality releases? I could do with clearing some space on the old HD. wink

Mainly the rehearsal stuff released by FBG pisses gallons over the versions contained on PR.

If I'm not mistaken, they even snatched some stuff from those for their Purple Rush (1) new incarnation. But don't quote me on that since I can't remember the exact contents (and feel too lazy to look it up).

As it's been said before in this thread, focus on his officially released shit before you try to complete a bootleg set collection. I mean, really...

Oh I don't know.

Do you really want to hear MPLsound before you hear chocolate box/ work it (or whatever)?

really??

Get all his stuff up to 1990 or so sure.....

After that I'd see no problem in getting bootlegs while slowly working your way through the rest of the stuff.
