Vote - best TV performance

I know it's been done in various ways before, but I'd thought i'd start a new debate.

Best live TV performance.

I know the obvious choices. Here's mine.

Vibe - Let's work, delirious, band jam.

I still watch it all the time. I think the performance, energy, look are faultless. Even Kirk rips it on the skins! I particularly love the massive heel slide across the floor. That shit is hard to do, particularly in front of a live audience. He smashes it.

What about you?

Yeah, that's a classic one--he enters 100% energized and it doesn't let up for a second. The only thing that could have made it better was if it he had picked up the bass and tore that shit for a few bars before launching into Delirious.

Yeah, electric chair on SNL is awesome.

I actually really enjoyed the BRITS in 2006 (I think). Made everyone else look shit that night : )

It's been awhile since I've seen any of his TV peformances, but the two that stand out to me are the American Music Awards in 1995 and "Fury" on SNL from a few years back.

At the AMA show, he debuted a bunch of songs from "Gold" (albeit via lipsynching). The way he was carried out in that bag, sat up, and did a "reverse split" to get up and start dancing still gives me goosebumps. He just oozed confidence throughout the entire performance.

"Fury" from SNL is by far the best version I've ever heard of that song. I wish it sounded more like that on the album. His playing, energy-level, and singing were just amazing. And I love the way he threw the mic down at the end and ran off stage. He knew he had nailed it.

Also just thought of "Dreamer" from The Tonight Show...amazing energy and playing that night was well with the Power Trio....Michael B, Sonny T, and P. I miss that band.

I never saw the Gold performance. That sounds cool. I loved it when he hit a slow split like in D&P

Dreamer was pretty good, but I'm like you, I wish he'd work a string of shows with Sonny and Michael again. Those days were awesome!

Good call there, my friend. I was only thinking of specfic Prince performances, but this is without a doubt one of his most kick-ass moments on TV. You could tell he wanted to flex his skills up there with all that other talent...and he did. Someone should have played that for Rolling Stone before they left him completely off their "Top 100 Guitarists of All Time" list...just baffling.

If there's any way you can get your hands (or computer) on a copy, it's well worth it. All I have is an old VHS copy somewhere in a box.

They played the "Purple Medley" beforehand, and a bunch of his regular dancers from that era came out and performed to it. Then, as it winded down, out pops P from nowhere, sits straight up, and splits himself UP to the beginnings of "Billy Jack Bitch." Crazy good.
