Purple Rain. Still Silly After All These Years The posted article on Funkatopia about the Purple Rain script is hilarious.
Did anyone else watch this movie recently and think, "What in the world was I thinking worshipping this movie?". I look back at this film and then cut my kids some slack when they get into flicks like Twilight. Musically it's still fantastic, but on paper it's just awful.

Awful? I don't agree:
This is not "Godfather". No one expects that from Prince, do they??
It's a "little" movie about a rock funk musician,
still..... it's a damn good music film,
I love Purple Rain. Means a lot to me, I saw it several times in theaters when it had premiere in Denmark in 1984/85). And also on VHS later and again later on DVD.....

I could never say that: I never liked the fact that Prince made movies, so I never worshipped that stupid egotrip. Gimme the music!

It is a rock and roll movie and still one of this best of this genre. No one went to the movie cared about the script you are beyond silly if you do not understand this after all these years.

Yes its silly, I laugh @ P's facial expressions, and the script is poorly written. But I cant help but this film "How Can I Stand To..Stay Where I Am? Poor Butterfly Who..Dont Understand." P

It was pretty fresh at the time. It had its own style and really captured Prince as a live performer. Obviously, the songs were fantastic. But, yeah, it's pretty goofy now and, as I said in the other thread, the acting is just absolutely awful on nearly every level. It has its place in history certainly, and came along at just the right time: when MTV carved out a niche for visual elements to compliment popular music.

Hell no! Love Purple Rain! I watched it a few years back and it took me right back to my late teens in a great way. I never thought the script was amazing at the time but it was all about the music and Prince. You think kids today will be able to look back at Kesha music or Gaga with as much admiration? Nope. They'll be thinking what so many people think about most music when they get older...what was I thinking!?? Not with P. I knew exactly what I was thinking getting so into everything that is Prince including all the bad acting, odd career moves and wierd comments and actions. His incredible music and legacy within music is what it's all about. Always has been always will be. The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Best lines in the whole movie. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Come on Funkatopia, as U are much matured now, when U watch this movie, you should realise that it's a media through which Prince makes himself known for the music he plays for the musicians around him..definetely it's not a chef d oeuvre, in the movie industry: not a masterpiece with real good actors... It's only about real good musicians
