Nope i could tell by his edges he had 4a/4b hair in the beginning of his career.
maybe 3c but i highly doubt it
I think over time his hair got straighter from the constant straightening.

Thanks Purplelove7, totally agree, none of us do. But ya know, it's just so stupid at times, (and yes orger Kooleaze, I hear you loud and clear, and still respect you, even if you may not like my response, and of course, you are entitled to your opinions, but how you feel won't stop me from expressing mine, as I'm not here to kiss anyone's ass.) These questions always seem to be questioned when it involves someone Black, and I'm damn sure not afraid to say that. Why are there hair textures in particular always questioned constantly, and why is it so important to others or impossible that Black people have thick/long hair? Why is it they always have to be wearing a wig or weave and it just can't possibly be theirs? So if the OP has a right to pose that question, I have a right to respond with mine, like it or not.
Trust, I'm only saying what many feel when this question pops up every other month, but they're too afraid to say anything on the forums, but will say it in orgnotes, because of the response they will get. It's as though some have this perception that Black people have only one type texture of hair, when you have some with "fine, slightly-wavy, kinky-wavy, semi-straight wavy, kinky/nappy, tight-curled". I've seen these various textures on Hispanics of various ethnic groups, as well as Egyptians, Ethiopians, just to name a few, but you don't see so many threads questioning their hair types/skin color, and people assuming specific groups should have the same type, textured hair, so when they see someone they were taught is "supposed" to have a certain type hair texture/hair color, they are in shock.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people shouldn't ask, but my response to the OP of this thread came off like that, only because we already had a thread going on this same topic, and I just wondered if somehow he missed it. Now if anyone here don't like my response, oh well, you made the choice of reading it, as no one is forced to, just like I wasn't forced to read the OP's comments. [Edited 7/27/11 10:15am]

Your point of view is understandable but I don´t think that black people are the only ones who get scrutinized like that. White entertainers get asked those questions, too. Just think of Tom Jones or Cher or Demi Moore etc. etc.etc. Whether it´s hair, botox, plastic surgery and what not. But I understand where you´re coming from. As part of a minority group, I get asked a lot of (probably) insensitive questions, too, and people say the weirdest things ( and when I say people I include some of my closest friends and girlfriends). But then I see that they really don´t want to offend me at all, they´re just curious.
I guess everybody falls into some kind of category sooner or later. I understand your point, but I also understand Tyler Hippie´s curiousity. Also, I think it´s cool that younger people get into Prince´s music, too, and we should welcome the younger generation with open arms . It never really bothers me when the newbies ask those kind of questions or when some of them ask the same old questions. It is a fan forum, after all. Kooleaze, let's be real 'bro, this isn't about Cher, Tom Jones or Demi Moore, so you know exactly where I'm going with this. Those type questions/assumptions/stereotypical nonsense, is not done at the high level, as when the question involves Blacks or Black entertainers. I have nothing against "Tylerhippie" at all, and yes he was asking an innocent question, and quite frankly my responses to his question was not that harsh, but moreso ended in a joking manner, and I apologize to "Tylerhippie" if he took it that way, it wasn't meant to come off like that. You've known me a long time on this site, and I have no problem stepping up to apologize or taking responsibility for what I state here. Which is a lot more than many here have the guts to do.
I doubt my comments to him ruined any part of his day and it would be utterly ridiculous if it did. Now if others want to make a bigger deal out of how I responded, well, I can't control that, and I'm sure they have much better and more important things to do with their day. Like I said, I still respect you, Kooleaze, despite our difference of opinion on this matter. [Edited 7/27/11 9:44am]

Hhhmmm. I think this is turning into something that wasn´t intended by neither me or the OP. Besides, I wasn´t even thinking about you in particular when I wrote what I wrote. Anyway, I´m out, got things to do. Check your orgnotes. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! okay i couldn't resist...but all black folks that have used relaxers don't REQUIRE them. many fell for the okey-doke thinking it was the only way to get and maintain your own bouncing and behaving hair. flat irons and the right products go a long way and are better for your hair(living it). hell a straightening comb can hook a head up in the right hands (witnessed it). truth be told with age, hair texture as well as volume and length changes. prince may have had assistance in the purple rain days but what he is sporting now if that is a wig some folks better be looking into some prescription eyewear (living it). other than that many of us older folks take silica, biotin or use it's products and don't forget your omega 3's. as a vegetarian ( i am and supposedly so is prince) flax and borage are the frontrunners. can't say prince is doing any of this but trust me it works. so if you're planning to rock relaxers for a while...eat your veggies, get off of it (the creamy crack) no later than 40-45 and unless your mom passed on the thinning hair gene to you from her dad, you should be good. ask my brother whose 30 year-old waist length dreads have forced him to shave his head cause the stress on his scalp was waaaaay tooo much.

Quote from Prince at one of the Forum in LA 21 Nite Shows May 2011 "What's my hair doin'?" Made me giggle cuz I was noticing it was kinda flopping around looser on top that night, not so stiff. I noticed before he asked. The next night his hair was right and tight.
Prince cares very much about his hair, skin, hands, body.... um what was I saying, oh yeah, so he takes care of himself meticulously and it shows. Besides it seems genetics plays a part judging from his "Prince" album cover when my husband (boyfriend back then) said "Hair lookin' better than a girls" back when we were 16.
I agree with KoolEaze your question is understandable/legit altho I think U assumed about relaxers in the post cuz like someone else said none of us knows exactly what he's doing.
Prince's hair deserves AT LEAST two threads PER DAY! IMO. J/K

You're okay Tyler, I still like you. But yeah, like other orgers (like me) who are black themselves had mentioned, some people's hair just hold up, some don't. I'm only 18 and only had texturizers for about 2 years, but quit after stress got mixed and follicles were falling out. But I'm good now btw. Anyway, everyone's heads are different Some last an some don't. Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

How do you know P has been perming for decades as you claim? Seriously. You don't. Maybe he uses a flat iron, pressing comb, or blow drier with attachment. That requires no chemicals. There is more than one way to get straight hair. Maybe he takes breaks from relaxing.

The hell it doesn't. Either you haven't seen enough wigs or weaves, or you haven't seen enough pics of Prince.
LOL in 2011 I still meet people that didn't know Steve Harvey and Bernie Mac were wearing wigs all those many years. Hairstylists are good at fooling some of the people some of the time. That's what they get paid to do. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

But can't all that stuff damage your hair in the long run?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
People Please.......First, the bother has great mixed genes which attributes to the quality of his hair and he takes excellent care of his hair which helps to preserve and repair damages. I agree with the earlier comment that Prince probably does a press or flat iron rather than a perm. Prince's Sarah

Millions of people use these hair tools. It's not something out of the ordinary. I'm sure he has the best people working on his hair, and it looks like they do a good job. If the tools are used in the correct way, no it doesn't damage it.
