Well for me, with the exception of Old School Company and maybe one other track, I found MPLS Sound unlistenable. I heard no "Minneapolis Sound" in that CD at all so I would go with For You if I had to choose between those two.

mplsound for me...but only just....nothing on for you as good as 'dance 4 me' or ' ol skool company ' although the rest of the album is disapointing.....for you was made by prince when he was a kid...not a bad debut but you can hear he is just finding his feet...

Please it makes no sense to compare the old stuff which is fantastic to the latest 1996 to 2010.

1978 to 1995 is in a different and higher league, premiere league, while post warner music is in 1. division only.

You just can't compare imo.

Prince was much more dedicated and unique back then,

now he is only entertaining at best, not so much nerve as back when he was young(er).

ps. but.. maybe this is a matter of old fan vs. newbie. question

I have seen newbies who dislike the classic Black Album and yet loves 3121/ Planet Earth, and this just makes no sense to me wink

Neither are great albums, but MPLSound is better because it has more classic tracks. MPLSound feel more like a real Prince album than For You. He's just getting started on that record.

About the same, For You was an impressive but patchy debut, its hardly a classic next to his superior albums, but hey he was learning and given back to its context, For You is nothing short of a miracle to what came before it. It was an album produced, arranged and composed, as well as performed by a 19 year old kid from Minneapolis. All he needed was a gimmick LOL.

But MPLSound has some great songs, but Valentina and Better with time are weak, and the highlights (Dance 4 me, Ol Skool Company) are not really classic but just modern day rehashes of his better 80s highlights. Pleasant but not great.

Both albums are about a B- for me, but For You had greater promise and was an indication of things to come, and the 19 year old Prince, had more hunger than the 51 year old Prince did.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I've been a fan since 1994, & I think this is fair. Neither album is perfect, but they both have their moments, & they're both Prince albums.....why not?

Besides, It's not like I said 'Parade' Vs. 'Chaos & Disorder' or something..... lol

I actually adore "For You," there isn't a bad track on it. I far prefer it to the self-titled follow up, which is one of the few Prince albums that it's hard for me to get through without skipping a track. And as I've said before, MPLSound is the worst album Prince has released. Easy decision, then.

For You is a great beginning album. There are several songs that I have downloaded onto my blackberry so I can listen to it while I'm on the track working out (with ear plugs of course). This album shows Prince's potential as a one man show man. I like For You, Soft n Wet, Baby I'm Yours, My Love is Forever, and So Blue.

Now, MPLSound is another album that I enjoyed. But honestly I haven't listened to it since the first year it came out. Before I wrote this response I had to go and listen to it so that I can make a response as honest as possible. Chocolate Box was never a favorite of mine but my sister (who purchased the album also) LOVED LOVED LOVED this song! She had it blasting out her truck as she drove down the street. She even got my teenagers liking this song. lol The songs that I like are Better with Time, No more Candy 4 U, Ol Skool Company, U're Gonna C Me, and Here.

So, when it comes to choosing I would say For You because Prince was showing people all that he had so he can be recognized and taken seriously as an artist. He put his ALL into his debut record. MPLSound is Prince saying "yeah I still got it" but it wasn't nothing that we wouldn't expect from him because we know he still has it (and much, much more). I still enjoyed it though. But no matter what I will never tire of hearing Prince's material because he always provide musical enjoyment to my ears.

For You contains everything that made Prince into Prince. He just needed to develop it.
MPLSound is a man repeating himself very very badly.
