Blue Light Appreciation

I've noticed Blue Light gets a lot of stick on prince.org, so I thought I'd show my appreciation for such a cool laid back track.

How can you not love a song that has these lyrics: "I'll be a hundred and seventeen, you'll be still saying baby not tonight."

Love the reggae feel. Wish he dabbled a little more with that genre, like ska/funk. Gotta boom that bass though, in Blue Light. wink

Do I need the aborted seques to understand why there is a reggae song in the middle of this album? Does the storyline involve the members of the NPG making a trip straight from Egypt to Jamaica?

Meh, it's okay. Nothing too special, but I don't mind it on the album.

I absolutely love 'Blue Light', it's one of my drunk-in-the-summer-sun jams giggle

The beat is sexy, the lyrics are even better -- he brings that cheeky humour I love forward .. I don't understand the hate pout

it's not a bad song...kind of good but just not that powerful of a track.

It kind of reminds me of Strollin in how it is so laid back. I really did Strollin tho

Wouldn't say it's the highpoint of the album but far from nonsensical lowpoints like The Flow. Charming and sexy.

I guess he was having fun making this song, but not a song I listen to often. Just listened to it again for the first time in years, reminded me of why I haven't. I used to think Chaka Demus & Pliers "Tease Me" had some Prince involvement. They recorded at Paisley Park, and sounds like they sampled the flute from Insatiable. They're more the real deal reggae-wise than Prince sort of dabbling with the sound on Blue Light.

disn't Prince play Blue Light on Arsenio Hall (II) in 1993 ?

I can't believe why Prince picked the worst song,

Blue Light is truly awful....

It depends how you define "appreciate"....if you have a dictionary (and if you can read one!! lol ) you will see that the verb can also mean to "be aware of", with not necessarily a meaning of "value".

And in any case, where I come from, over here in Europe, we believe in freedom of speech and exchange of ideas.

Oh, come on people. A thread about Blue Light ?! You got to be kiddin' me! This track is possibly the worst song Prince ever made in his entire carreer, I don't know what he was thinking back 1991/92. Totally doesn't fit the accompanying album (1992 Symbol) and let's be honest: it doesn't fit on any of his albums and should've just been an outtake and not any more than that. It's a total piece of s**t.

i know how to read, thank you. and i never said you couldnt say what you want, i was just wondering why you bothered. its like leaving a comment on a video on youtube of a song, saying you hate the artist.
