It wasn't released as a single though and I never got why they even released it in the first place...lol

Yes, that's interesting. Maybe WB wanted to push the (1994) album, and Prince couldn't (or didn't bother to) stop them making a video because his image wasn't in it.
Anyway, I have to throw my lot in with the 'I Wish U Heaven' people. It bugged me that people couldn't see how gorgeous that song was. But I guess, surrounded by things like Roxette and Def Leppard, it might have been a little too 'out there'...

True. Should've been a pop smash IMHO.

No Delirious video. No Pop Life video. The list goes on and on.
"Pop Life" came out in the summertime- don't even get me started on how it should have been a #1 hit. This was when MTV was THE STANDARD and H U G E. Prince made massive marketing missteps which I believe, is why these songs didn't fare as well on the charts. Thats the bottom line.

Yeah and the videos he did do for some songs, either they were just made last minute or cut from live performances. I think Prince definitely could've sold more had he had at least someone who could convince him to do this and that but knowing Prince's addiction of wanting control it wasn't possible.

MUSICOLOGY
I didn't like the song when it was released, and it certain pales in comparisson to his 80s material, but for a release, it could have been a bigger hit. The album was a hit due tot he concert giveway to some extent, but the single didn't chart as well as it could have.
It's a fun song. It has a retro feel to it. It's the first Prince video in FOREVER that I didn't hate. And he looks really cool in the video.
It simple didn't get enough play. I heard it at starbucks (which I honestly think helped a great deal--it was always being spun at the StarBucks I went to). But radio largely ignored it.
I think his record company should have more agressively promoted it, because it could have been a bigger hit.
again, this doesn't mean I love the song. I'm just looking at it as product, and it could have been a more successful one.

I actually love that song. In fact, people were looking at me funny the other day at the grocery store because I had this song playing in the headphones and I didn't realize I was making the 'funk face'.
Yep, shoulda been bigger.

Yeah all the exposure it got on BET I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger R&B hit considering I grew up when BET was relevant and actually thought it helped in making your song a big R&B hit lol (but that was my initial thoughts before I looked at some artists' charted history).
