Seriously, though...I think a lot of Prince fans are your everyday regular good folks. I don't care for people who have to constantly remind you how intelligent they are. We are smart enough to like Prince music, aren't we?

Prince is the poor man's music, Bowie is the rich man's music.

Bowie in general is more untoucheable than Prince - his music was never as mainstreamed, so it seems only the very elite are allowed to be big fans. Plus, P has always been more of a joke than anything else, and there always has and will be certain songs that EVERYONE will know (1999, WDC, Erotic City, LRC) and the only Bowie songs that people will know are Changes & Under Pressure - and even that's because of Vanilla Ice. IMHO Prince is much more poppy than Bowie.

I think Bowie is more respected as an artist as well.

All of this is from my perspective though, and you've always gotta consider my age.

Generalizing people by what music they listen to is pretty intelligent?

Actually it says more about you than it does anything.


What is "smart music" to you may not be to an actual smart person (scientist, brain surgeon, etc.)

Prince made his name using controversy. Naturally, most people still think all he sang about was sex. How often have you been levelled with the following questions, 'Oh, but isn't he gay?'
