True, if anyone is really "into" an artist the fascination is often narcissistic. You see a little bit of yourself in the artist. I'm willing to admit it, but the person who started the thread isn't "smart" enough to know intelligence is subjective lol. The original post makes a couple of rather flawed sweeping generalisations.

The first one that hit me is that Prince is not apparently not "bothering". What exactly it is that he is not doing as a musician is a mystery. He records and releases music fairly regularly. He tours and performs live pretty frequently. I suspect that once again it's a "Prince not making an effort anymore" or "not as good as he used to be" argument which I personally find a little tiresome. To blame it on the fact that Prince sees apparently dumb fans on these boards and thinks "aah that'll do, they don't get it anyway" is laughable.

Secondly, do you really think Prince only wants intelligent elitist fans that "get" his music on some higher level that the great unwashed just can't fathom. He wouldn't sell many records that way now would he. You've got to decide, is Prince all about the money, fame, success and firming up his legendary status? Or does he want to take a few hundred of us to the mountain top.

Responding to a baiting thread is generally a bad idea.

With that said, I think it is incredibly unwise to generalise about a fanbase of someone who has reached such mass appeal. When your fame and work reaches such a huge number of people, of course there isn't going to be an elite level of discourse and analysis across the board. There is however a fair lot of people on here who have written some wonderfully detailed and observed posts over the years, and have an enviable level of Prince knowledge, especially around live recordings, which has always been one of my weaker areas. Those who are unable or unwilling to contribute such work is not simply because of the level of intelligence and ability of posters/bloggers/fans, but because not everyone thinks that obsessive analysis is the way to better enjoy the life's work of Prince. Some are happy to enjoy what they enjoy. Prince "not bothering" also has very, very little to do with this, and far more to do with his increasingly strange life choices and political views.

Sometimes, yes, some questions, posts seem silly, but hey, better ask a silly question, than keeping all that silliness inside; Of course, it might be beneficial for us that Prince himself should reply to the posts related to himself..

Instead of forcing new people to wait 5 day before they can post, the org should give them an IQ test. Depending on their results, they can only post in certain forums!

Over 140 - Genius or almost genius - allowed to post in Music: Non-Prince (don't know why these guys always seem smarter than the rest of us...)
120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence - allowed to post in Politics & Religion but must site references with every post
110 - 119 - Superior intelligence - allowed to post in Prince Music & More but must use Prince-bonics and either love everything he does or hate everything after 1995
90 - 109 - Average or normal intelligence - General Discussion!!
80 - 89 - Dullness - can only post in Fan Gatherings or Past Present Future Sites - since no one goes there anyway
70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency in intelligence - can only be a moderator
Under 70 - Feeble-mindedness - can only post in Org Artist Community in all CAPS or in Concerts using blue font
