The Ultimate Cool Throughout history every once in a while comes a man so "cool" he affects everyone he comes into contact with. Women want to date him, men want to be him, and parents want them to stay away from their children.
Of course, everyone has a different sense of who or what is cool, especially inthis day and age where every other day a new fad, style or genre is created. Looking at the ultimate cool though, there is a sense of respect, even if you don't like their style, you know when someone has it. And seeing guys Like James Dean, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, The Fonz and Shaft(lol) from the past, as well as guys living their legacies now like say maybe Johnny Depp, do you think prince has the ultimatecool factor? Yes? No? Don't agree with the names I mentioned above? Who would you rate the coolest guys in history from a world wide perspective? But if you just want to answer from your own perspective thats cool too. While this is a personal taste question, I'm looking for a more objective answer, based on what you think the general population would think. I look forward to what you guys have to say. Prince trys to hard to be different so he will never be cool. He is talented probably the most talented on the list but will never be cool because he always act so shy and quiet. Prince will never be cool, it's not natural for him.

Thats a pretty good point but then again most of the guys I listed who are arguably among some of the coolest guys to have lived were either all very shy or atleast started out really shy.
But I def see where you are coming from

I think in the 1985 Rolling Stone interview, Prince gave the following definition of cool: "If you can walk into a room and not be unnerved by anyone you see, then you are cool" or "If there is no one who can walk into a room and make you nervous, then you are cool." So, it seems that for Prince cool is being different and being comfortable with being different, which makes him cool. Of course, when you are so different that it challenges the general public's idea of normal, then it becomes difficult to be considered "cool," but to the current general public Prince does seem to be generally respected for his longevity, and, over time, more people seem to be less bothered by his antics or difference and simply react to his antics by saying, "That's just Prince."
So, if by cool you mean creating a trend, style, or movement that a mass of people will follow, then Prince could not be this because his ultimate goal was to be different, which meant to be unnerving to many people. Yet, Prince's success did have an impact on how radio sounded and how artists dressed for three to five years.
So, maybe Prince was one of those rare people who was able to have it both ways. Too different to be mass copied, but talented and successful enough to be respected and influential.
For me, what makes him cool, however, is that he seemed not to care about anyone else's definition of cool but his.

Jack Nicholson is the ultimate cool.
Prince is not the ultimate cool, just look at him at award shows.
