Did Prince ever think he was a "Super Natural" Being?

I mean, you take the song 1999: the "spooky" opening intro. The line "we could all die any day, but before I let that happen, I'll dance my life away" - he certainly gives off the impression that he is in "charge of it all", that he is a "higher being": an "entity" which has the "power" to dictate the timetable of events.

There are others, but that's what comes to mind. Any others? I hope this isn't too weird for ya'll but it needs to be talked about imo.

I say no, nobody is. He is human just like the rest of us, no different. I wouldn't go around saying something like that if I were you, it's like you're almost praising him, and you don't suppose to do that. He's not God or anything. Now about the song 1999, I think he was just playing on what everyone had been talking and thinking about for a while. Also it's just a song, I wouldn't take it that serious. People tried to do the same thing again with him, by saying he had talk or predicted the 9/11 attack before it happen.

its a matter of perspective.

back in the day when he was saying things in a new way he brought out what was deep inside of you that you didnt know was there and didnt know how to express. that can come across as visionary and prophetic like "how does he KNOW?"

but when your own mind expands and when you grow into someone more than you were before it's easier to put his lyrics into perspective and say 'oh yeah. that makes sense' because you can see it for yourself.

a word to the wise though, a god is someone who's mind encompasses the whole universe, they are omnipresent and omnipotent, alive in all things simultaneously, a glowing lamp of love and most importantly, light.

p.s. the universe is a figment of your imagination. angel

I think the 1999 reference is a bit of a leap to be honest.

It's a party song (albeit with added mock fear of our impending millenium doom). The "don't worry" part is just Prince getting the listener ready for some positivity and fun out of the gloom. The "before I let that happen" part seems to signify impotence rather than omnipotence. Prince is resigning himself to a higher power/fate/doom but saying what the hell, if we gonna go, go with a smile.

I don't think Prince has ever sung about himself as deity/supernatural. The closest he got was I Would Die 4 U but that can be interpreted as either a straight metaphor filled song to a lover or written in character from the perspective of saviour (i.e. Jesus Christ).

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

this exactly. 1999 is all about how hes powerless and just wants to have fun before he dies

It's cultivated.

He's not really like the SNL caricature of Prince, but his image is purposely alien and imaginaryland.

Super natural is another way of saying New Agey right? Paisley Park being in your heart, and talking about finding the ladder are certainly new agey, pseudo spiritualism. I think there was a period in the 80's were talking like that was a form of being flamboyant, and it seemed sexy. At some point he may have been out of his head to the point where it stopped being an act, but if so, I'm sure the often rumored drugs may have helped.

The thing is, in some new age philosophy... we are all Gods... because we are children of God and therefore many of them believe there are untapped supernatural abilities that we are supposed to be developing.

... but even if we do have untapped abilities (I do believe that part to an extent) to be God Seed is totally different than being a God of traditional dogma so it's erroneous to say. We can't all be Gods because it would change the dynamics. God would no longer mean God in the omnipotent sense but would mean more like Lord can mean God or it can mean... "Lord of the Manner".... lol

Sometimes people can start talking crazy like they are god but it's just from learning philosophies that are meant to lead one to the higher self and realize that you are a part of the original divine energy (God)... they don't really think they are a god of dogma, they are just trying to potientiate their god seed characteristics by working a whole different angle into their mindset. To some of them, to not recognize the God within is to remain trapped within an illusion in a world of shadow.

To claim you are a God of dogma, such as the risen Christ.... THOSE are the people we need to keep an eye on... especially if you believe in prophecy.

Hi Youall

My thoughts on the subject are that Prince lives in a different place now. I mean spiritually. Since 1999 his views and perspective on where he belongs in the overall scheme have changed considerably. He now has the truth and would therefore view the supernatural/occult world in a completely different way.

Back when he appeared on Oprah with Mayte, he did say that he felt that they had both had a connection in a past life in Egypt. He may take a different view now, as he will have learned that the bible does not preach reincarnation. However, putting it a bit more politely than some! He is a man, with his own views and his own experience of life therefore we really dont know what is truly in his head, although we do try to know him because we love him. I have no doubt that he has had supernatural experiences. I beleieve in God and the bibles teachings and I have had several S/N happenings Good and bad.

Is this actually a serious question?

That album was just about having fun, and making the most of life, not to mention songs like Something In The Water only states he's human, with the same emotions as us. No P doesnt think he's a super natural being. Some of his fans do, & they are so ridiculous to think he's something better or more impressive than human, oh plz.

Didnt he recently state he goes to bathroom like the rest of us? Yeah thats so "super being" of him

I think most people on here do think he is a supernatural being.

The man has been unmatched musically releasing albums year after year, touring and playing his ass off. We have come to expect that. That he is a supernatural being.

I am so so so curious about the supernatural experiences of others because I have had many strange things happen to me as long as I can remember.

I DO believe in reincarnation but I think trying to backtrack that for most people is rather pointless (at this point in time) but won't always be pointless as our consciousness evolves past our physical situations... and maybe we will have a chance to look back. As far as the bible not teaching reincarnation in the traditional sense you may be right.... but transfiguration, eternal spirit and afterlife are all themes that are congruent with reincarnation and are very predominant in the bible. To recieve a new form, technically, is reincarnation into a new life whether you will be able to remember it or not... and that is the very promise of reward for us for accepting God.

I know these things have probably just slipped your mind but since the bible teaches the body isbut a vessel of clay and there are talks of new forms for us... There are more reincarnation themes in the ol bible than you are thinking of right now. wink... and those are not all. In the bible God refers to people who have not yet been born like he's known them a million years.

anyway... i won't pester you about what your supernatural experiences were because I would be afraid to tell my own. Most people simply would not believe it. Words can't describe how that feels since things keep happening and I'm basically alone with my experiences but it is what it is. That's life... maybe that is how it is supposed to be. I don't believe everything I am told either despite trying to look at things like that with an open mind.

.... but if you care to tell your stories... do tell. I am very interested in these things.

I don't think so. Besides the Prince on this album wanted to have fun and wild out because he knew we never have long to live on this earth. Most of the songs on 1999 (and most of Prince's material from 1980 to around '95 I guess) went on that concept.

Here's my take on this subject:

Prince is a really talented musician who was born to do what he does....

His music has effected all of who it's supposed to, & his music will always inspire....

But ultimately, Prince is no different from any other of us gods...

If he has anymore special, he would know better than to do a lot the business deals he does...

If he was anymore special, he could do no wrong...

All of those who actually believes he can't do any wrong [like some on this forum] do worship him...[don't front], which would feed into him believing he's more himself...[I know at some point, I might feel that way too if that were to happen to me]

Prince, MJ, & any other person who's experienced success on such a level always feel as if they're beyond human. But they're not.

Prince has always fooled around with religion/faith/spirituality [putting "riddles" in his lyrics, "The Dawn" (whatever that means lol) , etc.], & he definitely thinks he's more than human. But nope, sorry bud!

cool

I do believe he is a "chosen" one... nod

Based on talent and work ethic alone, he has very few peers.

Which is eerily similar to the golden child theory.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
